During WW2, the storage bunkers were used to store things like food, water, and documents. They were weather proof, heat / cool consistent and had their own air circulation system. Anyhow, one of the bunkers also was supposed to have had celophane films of various things. (not sure what).
Anyhow, when the Soviet Army invaded Berlin and liberated the airport, they couldn't get into some of the storage bunkers. Thus, they decided to blow up the steel doors to get access. This resulted in a fire that burned very hot - for several days.
While they don't know if anyone was killed, and the cello film was destroyed, these bunkers are still there and available for us to explore.
They've not been repaired, the black smoke/heat can be seen from the fire (it collapsed the concrete in places and twisted the steel reinforcing rods) and the warped doors are not all in their hinges. Strangely, they re-wired the lights - which are the only "repair" made.

OK so I did go and get these sets of Martha Stewart's collapsible boxes. I had the bottom two and the top one and they lasted a year, so I went back to get another set (of 3). Lo and behold they were out! Oh no! Now what? I have hit the thrift stores for weeks looking for small suitcases to no avail. So then I went into the underbed storage area and found these three M.S.'s with little windows all same size. Tah Dah, it's stacked and ready. Top is not full! From bottom to top holds: table runners, rescued quilt squares, damaged vintage linens to recycle, quilt squares to recycle, and the like; baggies of color coordinated CQ scraps of material; doiley's and scarves; kitchen linens old and to recycle, vintage ones in good condition, dresser scarves, napkins and tea towels; handkerchief collection; it's rather lonely at the top as it's empty with no friends to keep it company!

"The site of the former Bandeath Munitions Depot lies within a meander of the River Forth, north of Throsk, three miles east of Stirling. The facility began as an Admiralty Depot during World War I, with a nearby PoW camp, after which it remained in use and became a Royal Naval Armament Depot (RNAD) during World War II.
More than thirty of the original warehouse buildings survive on the site (2007), together with their associated emergency water tanks, air-raid shelters and watch posts, although their blast walls appear to have been levelled at some time. The crane still remains on the former Admiralty pier, which is now privately owned, but the crane is an empty shell, and the pier is a ruin, which should not be approached. Only a few sections of the internal railway remain, the majority have been lifted following closure of the main line in 1978. "

Storage room, what storage room? This is what used to be our storage room before it was taken over by the bf's hobby. Okay, so my hobby is taking up the other wall that I conveniently left out of the photo.
I finally got new knobs which I will post pics of soon. My dad build this for me and it holds SO much stuff. We have plenty of space to spare. The inside of the long yellow door is painted with chalkboard paint.
Now I know this baby has a few dings and scars, but don't we all? I love her all the same. Besides this provides much nicer storage than the stacked bins that were previously tucked into this corner. Now all that's left to do in this space is re-prurpose a Queen Anne's chair, paint the walls and rid my poor eyes of that putride pink and refinish the hardwood floors. Slowly but surely I'll get there...
