Again, Aalto did not use plywood for the seat surfaces. Solid birch, milled from renewable forests in Finland was used. A finer veneer, upholstery, or laminate was put on the surface, and a strip of veneer was wrapped to protect and cover the edges. This stool lacks both the surface and edge veneer.
With apologies to Fin, who took a photo of the same place just the other week (who I trust will be sporting, along with the three people who saw this before I changed my mind and added it to Guess Where London).
Some stools I found in the art department on campus. I loved the shapes, and the shadows they made, so I had to photograph them.

My final product for "Product Design 3" - a course at IPD, NTNU. The assignment was to make a stool with a height of 420 mm and a seat area of at least 250 x 250 mm. The stool was to be made from solid wood - either oak or ash.

This beautiful stool was painted by Hornby Island artist Elsepeth Armstrong. It was part of Hornby's United Grandmothers & Grand Sisters (HUGGS) chair auction to raise money in support of grandmothers in Africa raising their orphaned children because of HIV/AIDS.

28.10.2006: The ducking stool was used to cool of too heated up wives by dipping them into cold stream.
