I painted this wooden stool with my original ladybug design. It was in my daughter's school auction.
At The Barn.
4 days in Berlin. I didn't take as many photos as I wished, because we had a lot of stuff to do.
But we had great food & coffee and met lovely people!
Recently at a good friend’s dinner party, while using her bathroom I noticed a stool next to the toilet. Her kids were way past the small-kid stage of needing a step in order to clamber onto the potty seat, so I made a casual joke about her needing it after one too many glasses of wine....
I dry fit the stool legs in the rough cut top, I moved from an 8% angle on the legs to 10%-11% so hopefully they will be a little more stable than the prototype.
A drafting stool is specially designed to improve on the working conditions of anyone who uses it. It provides the proper support for the body, specifically the back that must be at the right angle at all times.
Here's a chart to tell you if your stools are normal or abnormal. I got this picture from the Fiber Menace website: www.fibermenace.com/gutsense/transition.html
"Fiber Menace" is a great new book by Konstantin Monastyrsky.
I crocheted a cover for a stool that I found on the curb. It was sturdy and the perfect height and shape for putting your feet up.
Unfortunately the material was cracked which was too bad because you could see that it was once beautiful.

Stool on display as part of the "Jazz Age" exhibit at the Cleveland Museum of Art in Cleveland, Ohio, in the United States.
Pierre Legrain (1889-1929) was born in Levallois-Perret, France. He convinced his wealthy parents to let him attend art classes at l’Ecole Germain Pilon. Although a gifted athlete, he suffered a torn aorta and was forced to suspend his athletic endeavors. When his father died, Legrain was forced to work for a living. He met French designer Paul Iribe (1883-1935), who was immediately impressed with Legain's artistic talent and education. Working as his assistant, Legrain acquired a wide range of skills in furniture, home furnishing, jewelry, and other decorative arts. During World War I, Legrain persuded the French Army to let him to enlist despite his damaged heart. During the war, he drew for a wide range of military publications. In 1919, he met French fashion designer and art collector Jacques Doucet (1853–1929), who commissioned him to design for furniture and a wide range of other objects. Legrain also hand-bound books for Doucent, and had an exhibition of his bindings at the 1920 Salon des Artistes Décorateurs. Legrain exhibited his furniture designs at a designer's salon in 1924, which proved a sensation. From 1925 until his untimely death from a heart attack in 1929, he focused on bookbinding and interior decoration.
This stool, almost identical to one made for Doucet, was produced about 1923. It is made of wood, lacquer, and sharkskin. Art Deco artisans were fascinated by African art, much of which was finally making its way to Europe as art (rather than the spoils of colonialism). The design of this stool is remarkably similar to a number of indigenous African pieces.

This is my sketching stool. I got it for about $15 (costs like $19 now) from REI, and it's really really light, but very sturdy. I attached a camera-bag strap t it to carry it over my shoulder, it's a perfect and unobtrusive sketching companion. No longer must I sit on the dirty pavement. My only gripe is that I'm now quite high up and my paints are usually on the ground. But otherwise I love it.
If you're wondering, I wanted blue. They only had green in stock.
I’ve drawn this as an illustration to a new page on my site: Materials. Since I am so often asked what pens etc I use, I thought it would be nice to have a whole page showing what I use in my entire sketching experience, not just micron pens and cotman paints but my shoulder-bag and sketching stool. It’s not completely comprehensive however; I stopped short at revealing what I eat and what music I listen to while sketching.
these stools caught my eye at a little quaint restaurant in cahaji, colombia up at the bar---they looked well used!!!!!!
