Old barn on the Godolphin estate

This is the site of the medieval settlement of Appleton, which was mentioned in the Domesday Book, and gradually deserted over the medieval period. St Mary's Church is in ruins, although the round tower is still standing. The church dates back to the Late Saxon period, and contains reused Roman building material. There is a holy well in the churchyard. A chantry chapel of St Katherine was founded here in the 14th century, although no standing remains of it are visible. A 17th century estate map shows a large manor house, surrounded by a double moat, as well as a substantial farmstead to the southeast. The moat and the farm survive as earthworks.

The ruined round tower remains standing and is a Grade II* listed building.

The historic Lindekemale Mill in Woluwe-Saint-Lambert, Brussels, bathed in warm late-afternoon sunlight beneath a dramatic sky. The old brick and stone building, traditional shutters, water wheel and tranquil stream create a timeless atmosphere in one of the capital's most picturesque corners.

Fort La Latte has been listed as a Historic Monument since 1925. And since 1931, it has been restored and maintained by the Joüon des Longrais family who have managed to preserve all of its attributes: drawbridge, walls, dungeon, dungeons, war machines and medieval garden

St Catherine’s Island, once home to a chapel, a fort, a private residence and a zoo, this tiny tidal island beside the seaside town of Tenby is a true wonder of the Welsh coastline.

St Mary Abbots church, Kensington, London. Site was consecrated in 1262 but the current structure dates from 1872.

Until 1st November 1855 Segenhoe Church was the parish church of the Bedfordshire village of Ridgmont. Now a roofless ruin it lies someway South of Ridgmont and just East of the village of Eversholt. The old church provides some great opportunities for the photographer as it can be easily photographed from any aspect.

The Old Сowshed was built in the early 19th century. 🐄 Now beautifully converted into living house with an old-time atmosphere inside.

The Straining Tower at Vyrnwy reservoir, Powys, Wales, UK

The Straining Tower at Vyrnwy reservoir is an intake tower built to extract water from the lake. The tower stands on the north shore of Lake Vyrnwy, near the village of Llanwddyn, in Powys, Wales. The Lake Vyrnwy dam project was designed to provide a water supply to the city of Liverpool and work on the dam began in 1881. On its completion 11 years later, the lake was the largest reservoir in Europe and water was drawn from it into the straining tower and carried to Liverpool on a 110km-long aqueduct.

Ludlow Castle with Dinham Weir on the river Teme, Shropshire, England, UK

The river Teme rises in the Kerry Hills in mid Wales and meanders a total of 76 miles (or 122 km) into the River Severn just below Worcester. Before the construction of the weirs, the Teme was extremely fast flowing and loud – which is how Ludlow, or loud hill, obtained its name.

Whilst on my daily 'Lockdown Walk', came across this fairly typical scene now found on the more remote hillsides surrounding my home in Betws yn Rhos, Conwy, North Wales.

Historically, before the onset of the European Union, Farming Subsidies and large scale production to survive etc 'Hillside Livestock Farming' was much smaller but equally successful.

Although it makes for a picturesque scene clearly and sadly with the passage of time this farm didn't survive.

Cuil Bay itself is on the south‐west part of the Ardsheal peninsula north west of the village Duror on the eastern shore of Loch Linnhe. It’s a beautiful and peaceful place with lovely coastal views across to the islands of Balnagowan, Shuna and Lismore, and it’s long shingle and sandy beach is a popular spot for all kinds of bird’s and wildlife watching.

Looking down at Fountains Abbey Infirmery in the late afternoon light.

Fountains Abbey is one of the largest and best preserved ruined Cistercian monasteries in England. It is located approximately 3 miles (5 km) south-west of Ripon in North Yorkshire, near to the village of Aldfield. Founded in 1132, the abbey operated for 407 years, becoming one of the wealthiest monasteries in England until its dissolution, by order of Henry VIII, in 1539.

We passed this church a few times while driving around in Cornwall. I decided to stop for a photo while the church was nicely sunlit.

Warkworth Castle

This "shopping paradise" is one of the most famous attractions in Milan,, but it is one of the finest buildings with all its fine details and architectural solutions.

This is the view across the coast at Chapel Porth in Cornwall with one of the typical mining engine houses in the frame. The former tin mines Wheal Coates are maintained by the National Trust and are simply perfectly situated on top of impressive cliffs. We first went down to the beach of Chapel Porth which at low tide presented itself as an endless stretch of golden sand. Afterwards we drove up to visit the ruins of the engine houses which look like medieval relics.

Castle Ashby House - side elevation

Another shot from the Wheal Coates tine mines - this time facing inland. The ruined engine houses look a lot like medieval castles I think. It was windy as hell on the cliff top but the views are worth it!!

St. Stephen's Church, Kingston Lacy

This Neoclassical building is one of 61 "Carnegie Libraries" in Michigan. These libraries were funded by the Carnegie Corporation of New York, a philanthropic endeavor by Andrew Carnegie. Over 2500 libraries were built between 1883 and 1929.

The Traverse City Library was built in 1904 and expanded in the 1960s. The addition, an awful, non-descript box of a building (in my opinion), was completely devoid of character, and inconsistent with the simple, elegant structure of the original. I cropped that addition out of this picture.

Today, Traverse City has grown, and a larger library has been built, with the Carnegie library eventually becoming today's "History Museum."
