If you have been following along with my posts on my photography blog, it's pretty clear that I have been pining away for a good snow here in New York City. Earlier this week I posted some photos of Central Park's most beautiful winter views and a compilation of photos of a snowy night in Manhattan. Well, I am happy to say that today definitely delivered in terms of snowy goodness.

After a hearty breakfast, I headed out to explore a part of Manhattan I rarely get to enjoy in the snow: the Financial District. I have photographed the Financial District quite a bit but never during a winter storm. It's actually one of my favorite parts of lower Manhattan. Between its historic streets and its gotham-like feel, it's hard to not get swept up in the cinematic elements of the neighborhood.

Description

Locomotive Services' Class 47, 47593 "Galloway Princess" approaches Moore Lane with an interesting and colourful ECS move (5Z77) from Crewe Diesel to the Weardale Railway at Bishop Auckland.

The consist was as follows: 10212 (Mk3a RFM ex-Pretendolino WB64 set) + 10229 (Mk3a RFM ex-GA) + 10689 + 10699 + 10531 + 6702 + 9804 (ex-Caledonian Sleeper Mk3/Mk2s) + 9711 (ex-Anglia Mk2 DBSO) + S 6311 (Mk1 Generator Car).

The Mk3a RFMs, 10699 and ex-sleeper Mk2s have been acquired by Eastern Rail Services (ERS) who are based at the Weardale Railway. 10689 and 10531 were moving to Weardale for onward road transport to the North Yorkshire Moors Railway and Wensleydale Railways respectively. The DBSO belongs to Crewe Diesel Preservation Group who are planning (with the assistance of Locomotive Services) to refurbish a push-pull set for use with their Class 47 (47 712).

The Generator Car belongs to Locomotive Services Limited (LSL) and went on with 47593 from Weardale to Tyne Yard for overnight stabling ahead of an HST Mk3 stock move back to Crewe Diesel the following day.

A Favourite Autumn location of mine is at Bottesford West Junction, but theres rarely anything unusual to photograph here at the right time of day. Today I got lucky with 37611 'Denise' working 5L48 Barrow Hill to Great Yarmouth conveying former Crosscountry HST Mk3 coaches passing the location in fine weather, the now disused Signalbox just visible in the background

Whilst backdating the Mk 1 stock, I thought "why stop there?!" Here are the Southern Railway Bogie B van back-dated to BR (SR) malachite green and the CCT Van back-dated to early BR maroon livery. If I had boundless funds and time, I would probably make these for real! (green framed windows notwithstanding!)

Stock Photo.

A general shot of Lillie Bridge, the Underground's track maintenance hub at the time. Plenty of battery locos on view.

Weak sunshine does its best to illuminate Monday's 5Z37 Derby RTC - Kingmoor stock move.

I don't know the full details but I understand that the three MkIIs were returning home having been used for extra brake force on a move which saw a faulty Network Rail coach moved from Inverness to Derby following its removal from a test train during the previous week.
