International Monetary Fund Managing Director Christine Lagarde delivers a statement on the conclusion of the IMF's Executive Board regular five-yearly review of the Special Drawing Rights (SDR) November 30, 2015 at the IMF Headquarters in Washington, DC. Lagarde stated “The Executive Board's decision to include the RMB in the SDR basket is an important milestone in the integration of the Chinese economy into the global financial system. It is also a recognition of the progress that the Chinese authorities have made in the past years in reforming China’s monetary and financial systems. The continuation and deepening of these efforts will bring about a more robust international monetary and financial system, which in turn will support the growth and stability of China and the global economy.” IMF Staff Photo/Stephen Jaffe

"CHOOSE LIFE was Katharine Hamnett's first slogan campaign in 1983, inspired by the central tenet of Buddhism. To choose life is to do no harm – to live a good, meaningful life and change the world for the better. Life is only to be found on this planet, and is under threat. Save it."

Mission Statement: To provide a museum to collect, display, preserve, and tell the story of wind power from its origination through the American Windmill to the present day.
The Kendallville Windmill Museum and Historical Society was incorporated in 1992 under the auspices of the Kendallville Local Development Corporation to create a tourist attraction for the area. The Board decided on the name "Mid-America Windmill Museum".
The museum is governed by a 21 member board of directors. The board members are elected by the dues paying members of the Kendallville Windmill Museum & Historical Society, and the officers are elected by the directors. The board of directors and volunteers restore and maintain the windmills, the buildings, the grounds, staff the gift shop, and serve as museum guides.
There are a total of fifty-two windmills that have been restored and are on exhibit in the museum barn or outside on the museum grounds. A highlight of the museum is a replica of the Robertson Post windmill, a single stone grist mill with a 52 foot diameter wind wheel. The original Robertson was shipped from England and erected on the James River near Jamestown, VA. in the 1620's.
A frozen statement on global climate change and inaction by the public and the Canadian government, while participating in the 2009 Polar Bear Swim in Vancouver, BC, Canada. What better time to raise the issue of the imminent threat facing Polar Bears (and the other environmental and societal impacts of climate change) than at the Polar Bear Swim?
. . . but which one shall I choose? (This keeps popping up in my Facebook feed. Such great, sartorial taste, eh?)
I took this picture playing with primary colours as the foreground and complementary as the background in order to get a 3D effect in the image. Not only that but was necessary to get the right lighting and aperture to blur the back. The combination of green and yellow at the background and the intensity of colours at the front gives the impression of a 3D image. I hope the resolutions of the monitors help any one to notice it.

One of six living subspecies of tiger, the Malayan tiger wears the characteristic striping pattern of black stripes on orange and white that provides excellent camouflage in the forest. Using its quiet stalking ability, a tiger will ambush large prey, often pouncing on it from the rear. Other than females with their young, tigers are solitary and come together only to mate. Each tiger defends its own territory from others of the same gender. Territories must be large to provide enough prey for a tiger to eat. As more and more forests disappear, tigers struggle to maintain a territory with sufficient prey.
A tiger may travel up to 20 miles a night in search of prey.
Unlike most cats, tigers seem to enjoy swimming and soaking in water.
A tiger’s roar can be heard up to two miles away.
One out of every 10,000 tigers will lack the orange coloring. These white tigers are not albinos; they simply express a recessive gene.

I'm back from the zoo and once again on the tired side. I think some dinner is in order to perk me up so my nice hubby is in the kitchen cooking up a storm. Lucky me! Once I'm done enjoying dinner I hope to see some of your beautiful photos for awhile. Than I have to do some physical therapy on my foot and leg. That sure takes up some of my time. I hope everyone has had a great start to the week so far. Happy Monday!

When the 1906 Pure Food and Drug Act was enacted consumers were beginning to shift from buying food in bulk to buying smaller packaged goods. One key provision of the law forbid the adulteration of foods with ingredients that would deceive the purchaser or lessen the product’s value. Federal food and drug inspectors found that short-weighting or under-filling packages was a far bigger problem than adulterated ingredients. Indeed, at one point fully one-third of the products examined were short-weighted or under-filled.
Congress responded to these consumer “cheats” by enacting the little known Gould Net Weight Amendment in 1913. This statute required that packaged products be labeled with an accurate net weight statement or numerical count, and established FDA’s authority to require specified and standardized information on product labels. The law was later incorporated into the 1938 Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act.
The pictured bottle is an extract bottle from the early 20th century. With a label on it, it would be impossible for the housewife to see the deception contained within. Although the bottle was the expected size and shape of a two-ounce extract bottle, it had been created to hold but a single ounce.
The net weight statement on product labels is a continuing reminder of consumer protections that food and drug legislation and regulation have provided since the earliest days of the agency.
