This summer, we're back in West US but this time, with the whole family.

It will be an opportunity to try news startrails :)

30 shots of 1 minute each for a total of 30 min exposition, iso 800 f 3.5; canon 550D/t2i with 18-55 standard lens. Processed with lightroom, photoshop, startrails.

A collection of pictures (71) I took with my old Nikon D40 round a friends house while waiting for a meteor show. Unfortunately none were seen, however I have added the images together using Startrails software. The gaps were where the camera stopped working and missed a period of time.

I went to my grandparents' house to receive the 2014, so I decided to try making my first star trails

I should have taken more photos..

2nd go at startrails. This was from circa 80 exposures of 30s each af F5.6. I upped the ISO to 400 to try to get some brighter stars. You can see a plane go across and a couple of shooting stars too (I think)

Startrail taken facing south on 13 December 2014. There are meteors hidden in the 118 stacked frames within this image. But mostly you can see the stars and planes.

This image is comprised of 84 separate 20 second exposures.

First attempt ;)

This is my first attempt at creating a startrail image.

Batch processed the photos in Lightroom 3 and then stacked them using the free software called startrails (startrails DOT de).

I made a movie too and you can see 3 or 4 meteors shoot past. There's only one bright one visible in the photo, top-right corner, shooting from top-right to bottom-left.

17mins of star trails until my battery gave up the ghost.

The full moon was so bright the other night up on the Holy island causway that the startrails shot I tried ended up looking like daylight startrails !!! :-)

Taken when I first arrived to meet up with Dru & his pal Mike Straker . I just wish I had let it run a little longer to get some longer trails as the bright full moon made the scene look like daylight!!

I wish my star trails were more pronounced.

Scattata in prossimità del passo del Mortirolo, 6 esposizioni da 10 minuti ciascuna

Playing with long exposures, 38 and a bit minute exposure. I'm not sure if there is an advantage in either a simgle exposure or stacking multiple images. I think the single exposure worked better here because there were clouds blowing over and IMHO clouds mess up a stacked image. Getting the exposure right is more of a pain on a single shot tho, and this was a tad under

A long exposure of nearly three hours shows the celestial south pole. Crystal clear skies of the unpolluted Namibian countryside.

Taken with the Canon 50mm F/1.8 lens at F/2.8, ISO 1600. 210 exposures combined, each 30 seconds long. So this is about 3.5 hours of exposure time. Wheee!

Sinar F1 + massively out of date transparency film

Unfortunately the cassette was frozen in the torturing cold when I took the picture and later I had to tear the film out from the holder. That caused the mark in the center area.

nightscape et startrails

When I started this series, I was thinking startrails. It didn't occur to me it might be better as a time-lapse because of all the clouds moving through. In retrospect, I wish I had let it go longer - this is only about 45 minutes worth - but I had promised my sweetie I'd be home before midnight :-)

It really has a lot going on - the cloud layer tumbles and churns, airplanes dive into the cloud layer, the telescopes at both ends rotate, and the high clouds whoosh by the stars. Actually takes several views before you see everything going on. Play it HD full-screen (the 4 arrows in the lower right corner). Music by David Wurst.

Stratraill realizado en Cabo de Palos

Special thanks to the members of the Kuwait Voluntary Work Center that helped me to learn how to shoot Startrails.

We had two trails of shooting, the 2nd one took us about an hour but unfortunately the stars were out of focus.

This is my first trail and el7amdlilah it worked. Hope you all enjoy it.

Place: Al-Subiya, Kuwait.

Time: 6:00 pm - 7:15 pm

Date: December 4th, 2010.

The trail of the International Space Station crosses southern startrails. Comet Lovejoy was in the field of view (behind the right tree) also but is washed out by the approaching dawn during the stacking of images.

100 x 30 sec images (50 minutes) stacked in StarStaX software.

Each image was taken with Nikon D7000, Tokina 12-24mm lens at 12mm, f4, ISO 6400.

Taken at Poocher Swamp Game Reserve, near Bordertown SA, 28/12/2011

Big, bright beautiful star trails from the wildlife refuge made from 105 shots (30-second exposure, f/4, ISO 360) 105 minutes. Note the colors in the stars - blue, white, yellow, red/orange. I also made a time lapse movie of the same shots that is nearby in my photostream.
