Stanage Edge, Derbyshire. The wild beauty of the Peak District.... all new to us, we loved it!

Late evening light on the gritstone and heather near High Neb on Stanage Edge.

Looking towards Lose and Win hills from the southern end of Stanage. I’d waited, along with the midges, for a bank of cloud to clear, but it went from interesting skies to clear blue skies very quickly.

I’ve been visiting the eastern moors weekly to check on the progress of the heather bloom. I was hoping for an early show as i thought I may be incapacitated in a couple of weeks or so. After 9 months of waiting I’d got an appointment to see a consultant next week which may lead to me requiring a minor op, however owing to industrial actions by the BMA it was postponed yesterday for 2 months! At this rate I may be out of action during the first snows of winter!!

And now for something more colourful, a rainbow over the Hope Valley seen from Stanage Edge.

Winter draws to a close with a very wet morning at Stanage Edge, low cloud obscuring much of the surrounding scenery of Burbage Valley.

A pretty wonderful morning spent at Stanage High Neb. Love these millstones stacked up under the crag.

There was a thin gap between the thick clouds and skyline, so hoped I'd chosen right after a very indecisive time trying to work out where to go. Anyway, nice to reflect on a lovely experience. Reminds me I'm not always a Christmas-hating demotivated grumpy old sod :-)

The title might be a bit odd, but the sun looked to be peeking out from under the covers, before deciding to go back to bed (very sensible).

There was some lovely light in Hope Valley yesterday evening, as rain showers cleared, allowing watery sunshine to catch (from left to right) the slopes of Losehill, Win Hill, Bamford Edge and North Lees. The shafts of light can be seen through the rain droplets. I took three images at 240mm and stitched them. The top of the image is cropped more tightly to the top of the hills than would have been ideal but I liked the dark background provided by Kinder Scout and the other high ground beyond Edale.
