First walk of the New Year brought us to the Stackpole Estate and Bosherston Broadhaven beach. Looking back through the images I've realised how rusty I've become, so will need to try to get out more with the camera in 2015!

Water lilies, sunshine and gorgeous sky at Bosherston ponds on the Stackpole estate, Pembrokeshire, west Wales.
I'm enjoying macro photography a lot this year, using the FE 100-400 lens and extension tubes, as I didn't do much last year for some reason. This I believe is a Small Heath Butterfly from my visit to Stackpole a few days ago.

Stackpole estate once centred on an elegant baronial mansion, Stackpole Court. During the Civil War the Earls took the side of the King, and the house was besieged by Parliamentarians, to whom they eventually surrendered. A newer home of limestone was built in later years with extensive gardens, greenhouses and fine collections of plants.
Only a few outbuildings remain from the georgian mansion. This painted glass fanlight over the door to the dairy gives a flavour of what has been lost.
Rear view of the converted farmhouse, now a National Trust holiday cottage, where I spent a week.
I liked the shapes of the roof.
Pacific Coast Stock Exchange Building, 301 Pine Street, San Francisco, California. This building dates from 1915, and was originally a United States Treasury building. It was designed by J. Milton Dyer of Cleveland, Ohio in the neoclassical style. In 1930 it was sold and became the home to the trading floor of the Pacific Coast Stock Exchange. At that time the building was remodeled by the local architectural firm of Miller & Pflueger. They gutted the entire building, keeping only the neoclassical facade with its ten Tuscan columns, and adding Art Deco elements. The massiver Art Deco statues were added at that time as well. They are carved out of Yosemite granite by Ralph Stackpole. The Pacific Coast Stock Exchange closed its trading floor in 2002, and the building was later sold to private developers.

Bosherston Lily Ponds, Bosherston, Nr Pembroke, Pembrokeshire, SA71 5DN
Visited on 13 June 2014 - beautiful summers day, loads of sunshine.
Walk around one or both of the very large lily ponds.
This one is the west most pond (closest to the car park) then have a tea/coffee etc. in the 'tea shop' on the main road or something stronger in the pub just along from it.
Very nice day but took too many photos (this is just a small selection) so the walk took 2,1/2 hours in stead of 1 hour.
Beautiful small beach half way around this pond - really nice to visit.

Trying photos of a wooded area again. I definitely struggle with wooded areas as I find frames can be too "busy"
The eight arch bridge at Stackpole Court was built in 1797 to connect the mansion and Home Farm to the New Deer Park and Stackpole Quay. It is built from limestone over a weir.
