Public Square was platted in 1823, and it remains the heart of the City of Springfield. The Old State Capitol, along with the Lincoln-Herndon Law Offices and numerous other historic buildings surround the square.
Lao-Tze (aka Laozi) is the reputed author of the Tao Te Ching, the founder of philosophical Taoism. He was a contemporary of Confucius (6th century BCE) and his wisdom has had influence on Chinese culture ever since.
