On February 11, 1861, President elect Abraham Lincoln gave a farewell speech to his friends in Springfield at this train station. He boarded the train and spent the next four years guiding the Union states through the American Civil War. Lincoln eventually returned to Springfield on May 3, 1865, on a Funeral Train.

The AMA Pro Grand National Twins Championship is officially under way with the running of the opening round, the Illinois Motorcycle Dealers Association's Springfield Mile. With the laps running down Carr and Smith were running wheel to wheel with Mees, Kopp, Cummings, Memphis Shades' JR Schnabel, McCoy and Zanotti Racing's Jethro Halbert in tow. On the last re-start Coolbeth joined a lead pack that included Smith, Blue Springs Harley-Davidson/Screamin' Eagle rider Jared Mees, Latus Harley-Davidson/Screamin’ Eagle rider Joe Kopp, Chris Carr Racing/Lancaster Harley-Davidson rider Chris Carr and Nick Cummings. Smith gambled by taking a low line on the backstretch of the last lap to draft past the pack, and carried his lead out of the fourth turn with enough momentum to hold off Coolbeth. Carr finished third, followed by Mees, Cummings and Kopp.

Overall it was a great showing for D&D and all the riders. Speed is scheduled to air the mile on June 13th.

Traveled to Boston to attend baby sister’s graduation from Springfield College. While there I did a mini photo shoot with her to celebrate her accomplishment and was able to get a little sightseeing in as well.
This is my new Springfield Armory XD45. I bought this within a couple of weeks of buying my new Glock 21SF .45 ACP, and have since decided the XD is a far superior pistol in terms of ergonomics. The Glock still has it's merits and is by all accounts a great firearm as well.

Calibrated encoder (marked "2048"=wrong). Measured about 3.09:1 gear ratio. Brass gear =96 tooth. Encoder setting of 25344 ticks is correct, derived from a deduced large gear = 297 tooth. 297/96*2048*4= 25344 (last week's measurement from setting circles gave 25369)
