The view out of Bennigan's Grill and Tavern, located at the ground floor of the Hilton Springfield Hotel in downtown Springfield, Illinois. I was there helping out for a Girl Scout gathering. Taken on May 2nd, 2013, with my little broken Kodak Easy Share M1073 IS digital point and shoot camera. The screen no longer lights up, so I have to just point and shoot and hope.

nrhp # 78001187- Central Springfield Historic District- The Central Springfield Historic District is a 12-acre (4.9 ha) historic district in downtown Springfield. The district encompasses Springfield's oldest commercial district and is centered on the Old State Capitol. While the area was platted in 1822, only two buildings in the district predate the 1850s: the Old State Capitol and the Lincoln-Herndon Law Offices, both built in 1837. The majority of the district's buildings were constructed during Springfield's population boom in the 1860s and its subsequent growth in the latter half of the 19th century. These buildings included hotels, drug stores, groceries, clothing stores, and dry goods stores; some of the stores built in this period are still in operation. The businesses are also significant examples of 19th-century brick commercial architecture, including the Romanesque Pierick-Sommer Building and several works by prominent Springfield architects Helmle & Helmle.[1]
The district was added to the National Register of Historic Places on August 29, 1978.[2] A boundary extension in 1986 added seven more buildings to the district.

Traveled to Boston to attend baby sister’s graduation from Springfield College. While there I did a mini photo shoot with her to celebrate her accomplishment and was able to get a little sightseeing in as well.

Calibrated encoder (marked "2048"=wrong). Measured about 3.09:1 gear ratio. Brass gear =96 tooth. Encoder setting of 25344 ticks is correct, derived from a deduced large gear = 297 tooth. 297/96*2048*4= 25344 (last week's measurement from setting circles gave 25369)

The view is looking northwestward in downtown Springfield, Illinois, at the intersection of East Adams and South Fifth Streets. At one time this was a busy commercial district, but today not so much although some shops and restaurants remain in business to cater to the tourist traffic and downtown business workers.
