While doing a deep purge in my apartment in preparation for a deep spring cleaning that will happen later this week, I came across massive quantities of adorable little zippered bags, pouches, and cases. All from Clinique, all "free gift with purchase" premiums after half a lifetime of purchasing Clinique products. There were untold masses of pristine lipsticks inside. Untouched tubes of Rose Spectrum and Pink Chocolate and Violet Berry. They all went away.

UPDATE:

I am still obsessing about cleaning, purging, organizing... and scaling down. These three books have given me so much inspiration and motivation. I've made THREE trips to Goodwill to donate STUFF (and I'm still not through!) I've even donated some of my BOOKS! Gasp!

I have cleaned out and organized, cabinets, drawers, and closets (three walk-in closets, BTW) that were filled to the brim with things we either no longer need, or that belonged in the trash.

We have lived here 11 years and this is the first time I've really gotten serious about scaling down - it feels SO good!

I know I keep saying I'll be back soon - but I just have a bit more to do. Next up - the garage!

PLEASE, GUYS, NO COMMENTS ARE NECESSARY!

This is just an update to let you know I haven't dropped off the face of the earth.

Edited a very sexy photo that I found and gave it a caption.

The house owner seemed to be doing a rather complete spring cleaning here. Stuff piled up and most of it looked like it was destined for the dump.

Ths sofa is an Ikea one, "Niklas". It has feathers in the cushions, and it sheds everytime I change the cover...

Cleaning out a hole in the tree that was inhabited by Starlings

Day 134 of 365: "Spring Cleaning"

What started out as a small project, turned into something much, much bigger. We carried out two SUV-loads of stuff (this was the second load) over a period of about 5 hours.

And that doesn't include the ridiculous amount of paperwork that still has to be shredded.

But getting it done is a huge relief!

Everytime Crate & Barrel has their Wine & Dine sale, I go & get a set from the Mercer line. It's taken me awhile (about 4yrs), but I've finally got a decent amount of dinner plates, salad plates & bowls. Still need more appetizer plates.

I don't like to use disposables, so I like to have enough plates, etc. for parties.

Our spare room has been filled with half-dead computers and boxes of parts and cables for a little while since we had a few hardware failures in a row that I had to work around. I finally set about cleaning it up and realized that I've been hoarding computer parts and cables for the good part of a decade.

So I've spread it all out, in part to decide what very small percentage to keep, and in part to post here to embarrass myself into doing something about it.

Although the Bean Bag Cafe (601 Divisadero) is still going strong, steam cleaning wasn't enough for this beloved cheap eats and beer hangout to keep pace with many of the newer businesses on the Corridor. It has since had a spiffy makeover and still draws large crowds.

...hi-hoe, hi-hoe...it's off to work I go...

Spring cleaning fever = sorting out winter & summer clothes (and accessories like snow boots or mittens), and getting rid of what does fit anymore, what we never wear, what we don't like anymore. The big bag on the right is for charity, the small one is for a friend, and also contains some toys. (March 18th 2009)

I posted this last night as my daily photo. I wasn't planning to make it my 52 weeks. I have a plan for that, and will do it today, but I changed my mind about this. It was done quite spontaneously. An arms length selfie, due to laziness, and lack of time. However looking at it this morning, I realize it is perfect to describe the place I am this week. Rushing not out of too many shoulds, but because I am exploding with life! Cleaning, clearing, planting, and preparing for the work I WANT to do. NEED to do. The plants reflected in my eye represent the creative energy coming alive in me. I did not know I was doing this, in my tired state of get it done last night, but perhaps it is in those times, that the wiser self takes over. I love my life!

This photo shoot came from a friend of ours talking about looking forward to doing some "spring cleaning." When I went looking for the springs, I also found this celebrity who wanted to participate. Oh nooooooo!

This is a pile of Toby's bedclothes. I have been looking at it for 2 days now...partly because it is so pretty and the embroidered birds, crocheted blankets and appliqued dogs brighten up the arm of the sofa...and partly because I am, at heart, a procrastinator. It is not my worst habit...but it is one I will admit to!

It is all so pretty though *sigh*

I was going to leave this as a straight photograph...but after 2 days of no editing...I couldn't resist ;P

33 years, 9 months and 4 days old

De-cluttered living room area. Floors swept, baseboards dusted, and credenzas emptied. Credenza from the Salvation Army, 10.00, Lamp, Salvation Army, 4.99; Candlesticks, Salvation Army, 3.00; Bowl with lid, Salvation Army, 3.99

I only meant to move one small table but somehow it ended up being one of those endless days of moving furniture and total chaos...the end results were worth it though and I have fallen in love with my home all over again...

All this came out of our garage and basement. And we're still not done. It's going to be a long two months...

Okay, yes, so this is a little late but "Mid-Summer Cleaning!" does not sound as giddy.

We all need a little help from little hands to get into all those nooks and crannies and baseboards. Good thing Blythe has those cupped hands that can chase all the dust bunnies away.

1. Take a photo of your Blythe public beating rugs, cleaning, dusting, recycling, raking leaves, whatever it takes to keep things spic and span..

2. No clones.

3. No recycled photos.

4, Photos must be taken within the challenge timeframe, one photo per customer per challenge..

5. No Photoshop to meet Challenge requirements.

6. The deadline is midnight PST, Friday, August 23, 2013.

Cleaning out the fridge for the new year.. yuck! mustard!
