Seasonal Kids Activities

Just as Spring had sprung, Winter bites back this morning in the Rossendale Valley, Lancashire...

Today is the first day of spring. The trees here in Grand Junction, Colorado are starting to turn green and it is a bright and beautiful day. Wishing I was not home sick. This was taken in Texas a couple of years ago.

Autumn/Fall Crocus (Colchicum) are popping up now. They're as delicate and short-lived as their Spring cousins, but 3-4 times larger. More signs of Fall's arrival on Wednesday.

In the morning sun we rise.

To the wonderful colors that

great our eye's.

The sunshine causes

one to look to the sky's.

Watching in awe as each

ray splits apart.

Seeking life in every ray

of light that dose arise.

This beautiful morning

the light makes me wise.

Enjoying the warmth on my

face and in my heart.

I see the source of our

spiritual tie's.

In the morning sun we rise.

To the wonderful colors that

I find it interesting as spring approaches and the snow begins to melt, puddles begin to form and season past starts to show such as dried leaves that have been preserved under the snow start blowing around. This one got stock in this puddle putting on a nice display.

The tranquil fountain is located in the Spring Garden of Airlie Gardens. The Spring Garden features azaleas, seasonal bulbs, and a stone pergola structure.

“Some birds are not meant to be caged, that's all. Their feathers are too bright, their songs too sweet and wild. So you let them go, or when you open the cage to feed them they somehow fly out past you. And the part of you that knows it was wrong to imprison them in the first place rejoices, but still, the place where you live is that much more drab and empty for their departure.”

ALL THE THINGS YOU ARE – ELLA FITZGERALD

Spring is here at last

my little bird has flown

he stayed throughout Winter for four long months

but now he is fully grown

I have empty nest syndrome

he was a part of my every day

but yesterday standing by the Willow

I saw that he was not far away

I still watch the screen of the CCTV

waiting for him to roost each night

even though I know he's in the gardens

I am hoping he will nest to my delight

selfish of me I suppose although

it has been difficult to let go

I was privileged to watch this tiny wild creature

for as long as I did and at least I know

that he is happy in my gardens

I saw he met a lovely friend

I imagine them snugly in the ivy

that twines the willow around without end

each evening I stand and listen intently

and wish upon a star for signs

that my little Blue Tit is making plans

to raise a family this Spring Time

my little Robin follows me around

singing loudly and reassuring me

that my little Blue Tit is safe and secure

and life goes on quite naturally

I am heartened by this sweet revelation

and turn my attention to the budding trees

the thick evergreen of the twisting ivy

that will remain again this year for a new family

I heard tell that these little birds

can have up to fourteen tiny babies; I'm learning

and how wonderful it will be to look up at the Willow

and see my little Blue Tit's Family Tree emerging.

Back in July I found a spring on the waterline at my 'local' beach.

It had a great reflection, and shadows as the sun lowered.

Here are more of my spring pics on flickr

(And more of my other beach finds on flickr :-))

Spring.....

Flowers start to bloom...

This handsome young male Rufous Hummingbird is checking out the early Spring blossom....

He is first of the Northbound migrating Hummingbird showing up....

Grand Prismatic Spring. With multiple trails headed up for the best vantage from the Fairy Falls trail. You really can't see much of anything from the trail below, but a five to ten minute steep ascent gives such views as shown. It sure was a busy day as that's the Midway Geyser Basin lot in the background.

When we first moved into this house, the previous owner noted that this magnolia never bloomed. I discovered they had laid black plastic all around it. I removed the plastic and it bloomed like this each spring every year thereafter. That is a Douglas Fir reaching up behind it.

well it's Spring but it does tend to run hot and Cold.

Thank you all so much for your fav’s and comments. It is an honour and a pleasure to have my photo featured in Explore.

... for a happy Sunday !

Cherry blossoms and azaleas dominate this view of the magnificent garden at Filoli.

Filoli was built for Mr. and Mrs. William Bowers Bourn II, prominent San Franciscans, whose chief source of wealth was the Empire Gold Mine in Grass Valley, California. Mr. Bourn was also owner and president of the Spring Valley Water Company. The Bourns chose Willis Polk as principal designer for the House. An inventive architect, Polk frequently combined several styles in a single building, an eclecticism clearly evident in his design for Filoli. Construction of Filoli began in 1915 and the Bourns moved into the House in 1917. Bruce Porter, a talented stained-glass artist, painter, muralist, landscape designer, and art critic, was enlisted to help the Bourns plan the layout of the extensive formal garden that was built between 1917 and 1929. Both Mr. and Mrs. Bourn died in 1936.

The estate was purchased in 1937 by Mr. and Mrs. William P. Roth, owners of the Matson Navigation Company. Under the Roths’ supervision, the property was maintained and the formal garden gained worldwide recognition. Mrs. Roth made Filoli her home until 1975 when she donated 125 acres, including the House and formal Garden, to the National Trust for Historic Preservation for the enjoyment and inspiration of future generations. The remaining acreage was later gifted to Filoli Center.

The National Trust for Historic Preservation, a privately-funded nonprofit organization, works to save America’s historic places. Filoli is one of the 27 sites they own. As part of the agreement with the National Trust, Filoli Center, the local nonprofit, has full management responsibility for the property.

ON THE REACTIONS I WILL TRY TO RESPOND BACK

Finally. The weather was beautiful this weekend and it's supposed to be warm into the first of the week! Yay! I took a short walk in the woods and found the patch of periwinkle I raided last spring. Conveniently, this fallen tree was nearby. The backlighting and FA 77 lens provided some nice bokeh

It is finally looking like spring again. After a very snowy April, that set us back a few weeks for spring, our tulips are blooming!

Plymouth, Wisconsin

We have a strange small tree that came with the house purchase last year. Even as a tree hugger, I've not grown fond of this straggly stunted weeping something tree.

Rather resembles the spines of an umbrella.

But I did notice tiny clusters—this one about 1 inch/2.54 cm—of even tinier buds on various small drooping twigs. A tiny sign of spring.

Sigh. As we nurse our latest newly planted sequoias, cedars, and shore pines, this tree will continue to grow. Could not possibly terminate it, but it grows in sight of my home office windows.

Thanks for looking!
