After enjoying the Chiemsee we went to a small Italian restaurant in Rosenheim and had some really tasty pasta and wine

«Da chimico un giorno io avevo il potere

di sposar gli elementi e di farli reagire

ma gli uomini mai mi riuscì di capire

perché si combinassero attraverso l'amore.

Affidando ad un gioco la gioia e il dolore»

Reflecting spoons are altogether too much fun! I haven't abandoned the idea yet! This is another one hunkered down

on more paper I marbled many moons ago! Is it really a spoon? Or is it an egg? Thanks so much for your enthusiasm and patience with me, my friends!

Let's see a show of hands; who has heard of Spoon Theory?

Spoon Theory was coined by a woman named Christine Miserandino on her blog. She wrote an entry where she describes to a friend what living with lupus was like, using a unique metaphor where table spoons represent energy loss. You should really just read her entry because I can't do it justice.

Since this entry was written, it traveled quickly across the chronic illness communities, and has been adopted by many other diseases to help explain themselves to healthy people. Even though it was written specifically with lupus in mind, many of the neurological/autoimmune illnesses share so many symptoms, it has become extremely useful to a wide variety of people suffering from numerous ailments, including Chronic Fatigue. It has become something of a doctrine to the chronically ill who have trouble being understood by the rest of society, and I wanted to pay tribute to the huge influence it has had with this self portrait.

Side note: the very, very sweet Veronica Ricci gave me the vintage dress I'm wearing in this photo. Isn't it pretty? I love it :)

This is the last month of my campaign to raise funds for Chronic Fatigue Syndrome research! There is a desperate need for more answers about the disease. From now until August 31s, 50% of all profits from print sales and my online self-discovery-through-photography course Introspective will be donated to the CFIDS; an organization actively doing research into CFS. You can also donate directly to the CFIDS, of course. Please help spread the word about this; the more people this reaches, the better!

Thanks to my friend dareangel_2000 for suggesting I take a look at Chema Madoz - this is an attempt to blatantly copy one of his creations.

New techniques learned again tonight - never done a composite before so playing with layers and the selection tool in PS took longer than it should have to find my way around.

Every day so far has been a learning experience - from this one I learned to check for the reflection of the white card I was holding over my flash to modify the light - it's the white square you can see on the spoon. And although both the fork and spoon where shot in more or less the same position I should have used the same lighting in both. Spoon was shot with the modified flash, fork was shot with a small hand held led flashlight to give sharp shadows (have a look at my Flickr photo-stream and you'll see the original 2 shots used in the composite). This resulted in the shadows of the fork being much darker than that of the spoon and I had to play about with them to try and get them close.

Also it may have been easier to shoot the spoon on a piece of coloured card which would have made it easier for the selection tool to find the edges

Also not sure if the the fork shadow looks quite right - something a bit too artificial about it - it may need moved slightly...

I think Chema Madoz doesn't have anything to worry about from me!

Another from the British Wildlife Centre. I just loved watching the fox's - I believe it was peanut butter at the end of the spoon!

Thanks for your time

My second picture is of baby spoons that my Great Grandma used when she was a baby. She lived in Minneapolis, Minnesota. They are from the early 1900's. These spoons have been in my family for a very long time.

These spoons were lying on the table, Michael Vogt spotted the reflection of the conservatory roof, arranged them like this and borrowed my iPhone 4 to take the photo :)

Black Walnut Eating Spoon

Wood blank from Mount Wolfe Farm mountwolfefarm.ca/

Black Walnut with a mineral oil finish

This was the collection of spoons on my desk at work.

I saw them and thought it looked like a family of spoons. So I've given them a back story.

It's the typical family with a mum, dad and two kids (boy and girl)

The spoon to the far left is the brother spoon of the wife. He lives in the garage as his wife kicked him out and left him with nothing. He also reently lost his job due to a DUI where he lost his licence. He's going through a rough time but the kids like him and he's helping around the house. The wife says he'll be back on his feet in a few months but the dad has his doubts.

The brother spoon ends up saving the kids during a home invasion by a fork while the parents were at the Country Club's Xmas party. The brother ends up finding true love with the female police spoon who was first to respond to the 911 call.
