Mutabaruka (born Allan Hope, 26 December 1952, Rae Town, Jamaica) is a dub poet. His name comes from the Rwandan language and translates as "one who is always victorious." His 1983 release "Check It" was released on Chicago blues label Alligator Records. In 2008, Mutabaruka was featured as part of the Jamaica episode of the television program Anthony Bourdain: No Reservations.
As a young man employed by Jamaican Telephone Company Ltd, he became interested in the Rastafari movement and converted from Catholicism while still a teenager. His outspoken statements on theology have generated controversy even among Rastafarians, and he has described Rasta as "part of a universal quest which may also be pursued by other routes, such as Hinduism or Buddhism or Christianity.
On 2/18/10, I saw Henry Rollins' spoken word show for the sixth time. Afterward, I was very happy to get a picture with him, especially since he is my favorite author and spoken word artist of all time. Little did I know that a week later, my very good friend Barbara would take an 8x10 of the picture and get it signed by Henry after his show in Dallas. It's one of the coolest things anyone has ever done for me. This picture is now in a frame, hanging in my home studio/office. Barbara said that when Rollins saw the picture he said, "Look at that. I'm there trying to look knowledgeable and he looks all intense." Being called intense by Rollins is pretty funny. Thanks again for Barbara for being an amazing friend. Thanks to Kristina (Muerti) for cleaning up the pic in photoshop to eliminate the people in the background, as well as the red-eye. I have some wonderful friends.

A musical AND a film about Queen and not ONE show about The Fall? That’s bobbins! The Church of The Fall is one man’s attempt to do justice to Mark E. Smith and his group The Fall.
It’s like trying to do justice to Beethoven in an hour but I’m doing it for the kids raised on tales of Oasis’s greatness - they weren’t even the greatest group to come out of Greater Manchester.
The show celebrates the late writer, singer, magical realist, wit and working-class genius Mark E. Smith but it’s not just about him, or his alleged pyrotechnical personality.
OK, Mark E. Smith was likely ‘no Mandela’ but could Mandela have given us Spoilt Victorian Child? Before converting to atheism at 21, I was a practising Christian. I miss the love and certainty of the faithful, so my show is about the need to believe in something greater than us all and that thing is The Fall. Expect music, love and laughs.
They say that Fall fans live in the ‘cult of The Fall’ but this music, this art is too divine for a cult - The Fall is a broad church. You don’t have to love The Fall to enjoy my show, you just need to love music. Come one, come all, to the Church Of The Fall (FREE ENTRY for ex-Fall members). Stephen G. Titley’s a writer/actor/stand-up. COTF began as a radio show on Fab Radio International, Manchester www.mixcloud.com/ChurchOfTheFall/ and www.churchofthefall.co.uk/
I went to my first Henry Rollins spoken word tour in 2003. I've seen him multiple times since then, both spoken word and when his band plays, but was always too shy/nervous to have my photo taken with him.
I got over it! :D

All of them picking up a copy of a CD from World Music, one of the sponsors of the night. All of them chosen from catching, or picking up, a condom thrown out into the room. The flight of the condom packet is pretty decent, but not entirely safe for the foil edges can smart.
