Veli Varoš | Trumbićeva obala

Matejuška has been for centuries a port for small boats owned by fishermen of Split, the residents of Veli Varoš set sail from there out to the sea to feed their families.

Grad | Poljana kraljice Jelene

Diocletian's Palace, ancient palace built for the Roman emperor Diocletian at the turn of the fourth century AD, which today forms about half the old town of Split.

Her er indgangen til domkirken, som oprindelig er Diokletians mausoleum. Han var født i nærheden og blev i 311 e.Kr. begravet i sit palads, hvorfra hans lig dog forsvandt i løbet af middelalderen. Bemærk løverne i romansk stil.

Here is the entrance to the cathedral which was originally Diocletian's mausoleum. He was born nearby, and in 311 AD he was buried in his palace from where his body disappeared during medieval times. Note the lions in Romanesque style.

Grad | Trg Peristil

Diocletian's Palace, ancient palace built for the Roman emperor Diocletian at the turn of the fourth century AD, which today forms about half the old town of Split.

A monumental court, called the Peristyle, formed the Northern access to the imperial apartments. It also gave access to Diocletian's mausoleum on the East (today the Cathedral of Saint Domnius), and to three temples on the West (two of which are now lost, with the third, originally being the temple of Jupiter, becoming a baptistery).

This shows the mechanics of the Split Cams shutter, as you can see the only thing stopping the shutter from overextending is the shutter housing that fits over the top of this. This means that by putting a foil terminal at the point where the shutter makes contact with the shutter housing you can trigger a flash at the exact moment that the shutter is completely open.

I have embarked on a mission to photograph every cat in Croatia...

Split is one of Croatia's bigger cities and has an interesting old town. We were able to see the majority of the sights in three quarters of a day's relaxed exploration and spent the remaining quarter drinking excellent Croatian coffee and beer.
