Early one morning we were driving along Lake Superior in Minnesota, south of Split Rock Lighthouse, when we came across this scene. Though it was misting and miserable, I had to grab my umbrella and try.
Love em or hate em, turbines are here to stay...most would say great, as long as they are NIMBY (not in my back yard)! You can see my back yard way out in the distance, the furtherest peak.

It was built in 1910 after a storm damaged 29 boats in that area. It’s decommissioned now and is one of the most photographed places in Minnesota.
Split is the second-largest city of Croatia and the largest city of the region of Dalmatia, with about 300,000 people living in its urban area. It lies on the eastern shore of the Adriatic Sea.
Home to Diocletian's Palace, built for the Roman emperor in AD 305, the city was founded as the Greek colony of Aspálathos in the 3rd or 2nd century BC.

When you go out past Kilchoan, towards Sanna on the most westerly edge of Ardnamurchan you enter a very remote, dark and barren land of mountain, moor and bog. The volcanic rock is largely black, but everywhere the dark rock split with patches of white where white quartz has bled through the molten rocks. Seeing this prompted me to look for mountain hares in their winter garb. After all the landscape would appear to be ideal habitat for them, although a large eagle population might cull their numbers. Yet, I haven't seen one so far (this is an old picture from Manchester days). There are some over towards the east in the Cairngorms ( I last saw one near Glendoebeg) but none I am aware of in Ardnamurchan. I wonder if they could be re-introduced in Ardnamurchan?

This photo shows Split Rock Creek at Palisades State Park in South Dakota on a warm, cloudy June morning. The park is centered on this creek which has carved deep gorges through 1.2 billion-year-old pink Sioux quartzite rock formations. In the distance, you can see some of the vertical cliffs and spires that rise up approximately 50 feet above the water. I’ll show you a closer view of those cliffs another day.
Editing notes: I captured this photo with an iPhone 17 Pro’s main camera in RAW mode. While editing with Darktable, I used parametric masks to take the neon hue out of the foliage (making it more olive color) and darker. I then added some local contrast & saturation to the rocks to make them pop against the darker green foliage. Like a natural vignette, this helps draw your eye to the center of the photo. To finish, I blurred the distant rock cliffs a bit and masked the reflections in the water so that I could add a liberal touch of HDR effect to make the reflections in the water stand out more. I though about replacing the bland, overcast mid-morning sky and removing the picnic tables, but I left it alone. Authentic.
