The knights jousted for the crowd in Visegrad Hungary on July 11 2009. Baking in the July sun they charged horses at one another. When the lance found its mark it shattered into a breath taking array of colored splinters, knocking the riders form their mount. To be carried off with little dignity.
This photo makes me think of splinters. Another thing I remember from when I was little.. there use to be a barn in my backyard. (We took it down about eight or nine years back.) And I use to always run around inside of it with no shoes on.. I got plenty of splinters.. I also got quite a few nails in my feet, too.. wasn't too fun.. but those little memories I will keep with myself forever, and looking back on them - I realize how much I loved my childhood.

I have a lot of respect for people who go to this much trouble with their cosplays. Mine are simple, because I don't have a lot of time, and I lack this kind of talent. To see one like Splinter is truly exceptional. It's also tough to walk around in an outfit where you have little peripheral vision and dehydration is a real possibility.
In any case, Master Splinter was a lot of fun to get a shot of at this year's Anime Central. After I took the shot, we had a little exchange on mutagenics--I was dressed as Krieger at the time, after all. It's all in good fun.
Four years ago, November 2003, a small tornado passed through Germantown. Some townhomes about 1/4 mile east of us were damaged. A few days afterward, I noticed there were some newly fallen trees in the woods to the west of our house. So I took a walk out there to see it a bit closer. What I found was an alley had been carved through the woods. An alley that pointed directly at our house but stopped a couple hundred yards before reaching the edge of the trees. That tornado must have jumped right over us before touching down again on its way eastward.
I was shooting photos that I thought would prove a tornado had actually passed through. The damage to this tree shows that it was twisted apart, not just knocked down. The left side of the tree is sitting on the ground. The right half landed in the V.
As far as I know, neither the weather service investigators nor the local media discovered this stretch of damage because it was completely contained within the woods.
Again i took a long exposure not knowing what the outcome would be,slightly random, did i say slightly ha ha
