Blue Whale : The splashguard of the blue whale pushes water aside so that it can open its blowholes (which are just behind the splashguard) to breathe. You can see the misty exhale.
A few years ago, I emailed Nalgene and suggested a tiered waterbottle cap with a smaller cap on top, no reply from Nalgene with my suggestion.
Guyot design came out with the splashguard and Nalgene the easy sipper. I've both and it's not that great.

The bump seen here is a splashguard. It protects the two blowholes on the backside of it from water flowing over the front of the whale.

The bump seen here is a splashguard. It protects the two blowholes on the backside of it from water flowing over the front of the whale. You can get a poorly focused view of the two blowholes on this Humpback Whale. All baleen whales have two blowholes, while all toothed whales (Killer Whales, Sperm Whales, dolphins and porpoises) have one blowhole.

closed up of the metal gas tank and gray side cover There is a piece of black plastic/splashguard that hides most of the tank that is not mounted in this pic.
Gas tank was easier to find than the gray side unit. I tried repainting the unit using rattle cans but could never get a non metallic color that was close enough. Most were either too dark, too blue or too metallic looking. Finally acquired an OEM set along with the proper 668 series oil coolers.
Also replaced the spill hose from the gas tank and the breather hose from the airbox.

Lesson learned: Pay attention! It'd be nice if it floated, though. I watched helplessly as it slowly sank to the bottom of my just-filled bottle of water.
