In the north of ‘s-Hertogenbosch (The Netherlands) in the Maaspoort district, you will find fifty sphere houses with their striking architecture. The spherical house was designed by the sculptor, designer and architect Dries Kreijkamp born in 1937 in Tegelen. After following various courses and gaining work experience, architect Dries Kreijkamp has found his passion, the sphere, the most organic and natural form.

After the foundation of private company Bolbouw, the houses were realized in 1984 with the aid of a subsidy for experimental living. With the aim of connecting the residents with nature, partly due to the various round windows that are present in the houses. The houses are also environmentally friendly, because of the spherical shape the wind has almost no control over them and they are also designed in such a way that they are energy efficient and cheap.

The white sphere has a diameter of five and a half meters and consists of cement reinforced with glass fiber. The sphere is, as it were, part of a kind of stilt house. It rests on a precast concrete cylinder with a diameter of three meters. The houses are divided as follows: the living room is located at the top of the sphere, toilet and bathroom in the middle and at the bottom are the bedrooms and a storage room made of polyester.

The sphere dwellings are designed for 1 to 2 people. The diameter of the sphere is 5.5 meters. The round base has a diameter of 3 meters. Here is the entrance and storage room. The volume of the sphere is 124m³ with a floor area of 55m². Through the entrance you walk up the stairs where the bedroom is. The toilet and bathroom are located in the center of the sphere. The living room with open kitchen is located at the top of the sphere. The living room has beautiful round windows that give it a futuristic look.

Today's photo tour sends us to Epcot for a shot of Spaceship Earth with the fisheye lens. What I really like about this lens is the fact that you can get really creative and artistic. The shot may not look like they do to the human eye but it really adds a uniqueness to the photo. Do you own a fisheye lens? a magical day!

I used a homemade ligthtbox and used a off-camera strobe to light it up. Strobe was the 430ex.

Im guessing this little fellow is all puffed out to insulate against the cold. I think this is how id represent a robin caricature….

This image is on display at the British Airways i360 as part of an exhibition documenting the construction of the i360. In the exhibition it's 2 meters square, worth checking out in the flesh even if I do say so myself. You can read more about this exhibition on my blog here.

This was one of my first spherical panorama it's not shot with the spacial camera, you just need to start with 360° panorama and then it's a little tweaking in Photoshop and then you get this.

Using open-source data on the topography of Venus, I changed a flat (hollow) sphere into a model of Venus. I then added raised images of 4 different dragons evenly spaced across the surface. I 3d printed the object using white PLA filament. It doesn't look like much when the light is turned off: just a lumpy white ball. But when the light comes on the imagery reveals itself.

The Morten Botanical Gardens in Palm Springs was a quick, yet lovely stop in our trip. It had many offerings in its compact compound. Highly recommended on anyone's itinerary if there's interest in knowing more about desert botanicals!

I was hoping this wasn't the case, but it seems like the situation has changed a bit from when I first heard about Teufelsburg. It's deifinitely not a real urban-ex site anymore.. There are people who give "tours" of the site for €7. I have no idea what their real affiliation to the site is, but they seem to have it on lockdown. It's a shame we weren't able to explore on our own, but at least I got some good photos. More free advertising for these capitalists I suppose..
