Custom Soundwave Accurate Version from Transformers Revenge Of The Fallen by Crefigz.

Garbage at Soundwave Melbourne 1 March 2013

One of my favourite character in Bay's 'Transformers' film series.

Here are some exciting images of the first test piece of my current development for 3D printing... but can anyone guess what it is?

My latest repaint, Soundwave from the upcoming movie "Transformers 2, Revenge of the Fallen" which is due out in the Summer of 2009. This figure is expected to hit shelves in the US June of 2009, but lucky me got it already, and gave it my special love.

Originally a Japanese toy known as "Cassette Man", Soundwave was released in the first year of the original (1984) Transformers toyline and transforms into a realistically-sized blue and silver microcassette recorder, complete with an opening cassette door that can accommodate any of the numerous mini-cassette figures. The toy is armed with a shoulder-mounted cannon and a hand-held concussion blaster, which both transform into imitation batteries that store in a compartment on his back while he is in his alternate mode.

The popularity of Soundwave and his interactive tape gimmick was evident from an early stage: his toy continued to be sold up through 1986, after the vast majority of his 1984 brethren had been removed from toy shelves; Mini-Cassette partners continued to be produced for him even after this, through 1988; and Soundwave was shipped to Australian retail again in 1990.

Soundwave's always been one of my favorite G1 characters. To do him right, I started with an oversized G1 Soundwave (courtesy of kotoys.com)

Here is the list of modifications made to Soundwave:

...- His plastic's been completely filled with epoxy to give him extra stability and weight.

- The articulated hands (all fingers move independently) are courtesy of Zildjian.

- The head was custom built using a variety of parts. (cast & available on ebay soon)

- The visor is clear red plastic and the head contains a red LED light, which runs to it's power supply and on/off switch in Soundwave's back.

- Soundwave's chest was also completely rebuilt and re-invented.

- Although "oversized" the chest holsters "regular" sized G1 cassettes.

- All details/mods were done w/ styrene.

- His waist also extends (telescope style) giving him another inch of height.

- His knees now bend back.

- His feet pivot to lay flat

- Decals were custom built and applied, most graphics are hand painted

- Embossed Decepticon symbol on chest is hand cut from styrene

This custom Soundwave commission started as a Reveal the Shield Perceptor. The mold just screams Soundwave, so I painted him up in classics/Generation 1 Soundwave colors. I added weapons and head from the War For Cybertron Soundwave, swapped in a new front fender slightly modified the shoulders/backpack to give him a little more bulk up top, and went to town with details.

BTW, the Soundwave organisers deserve a stabbing! 2 and a half hours in the queue to get in! Where's my partial refund eh? The organisers stupidity or cost cutting cost _me_ 20% of the value of my ticket. Soundwave Sucks bigtime.
