VFS welcomed Oscar-nominated sound designer Craig Berkey (X-Men: First Class, The Tree of Life) for a special visit and mentoring session with Sound Design for Visual Media students. Craig received three Academy Award nominations for his work on the recent Coen brothers’ films No Country for Old Men and True Grit.

SCLOrk (the Santa Clara Laptop Orchestra) is an innovative ensemble of up to sixteen players dedicated to the creation and performance of live electronic music. Created in the Spring of 2012 by SCU faculty Bruno Ruviaro and students, this interdisciplinary group explores the intersection of music composition, live performance, human/computer interaction, programming, and sound design, with emphasis on musical creativity based on cutting-edge technologies.

7 sept 2019 >> NIEUWE FILMERS FESTIVAL – Verkadefabriek Den Bosch – feestelijke première avond van de negen korte films gemaakt tijdens het One Week Film Project 2019 met Q&A met de filmmakers. Na het voorlezen van het juryrapport volgde de spetterende prijsuitreiking van de film award Het Paradepaardje 2019 mét de geldprijs t.w.v. 2750,- door de vakjury aan de winnende regisseur en team! Het prijzengeld bestaat uit de Hermes Kunst & Cultuurfondsprijs t.w.v. 500 euro, de BudgetCamera waardecoupon t.w.v. 750 euro én 1500,- vanuit SOLOS Nieuwe Filmers gefinancierd uit het budget van de Van den Udenhout- Chappin Cultuurprijs. Het prijzengeld moet binnen 1 jaar door de winnaar / het winnende team worden besteed aan de realisatie van een nieuwe film [fictie, docu,animatie]! Nieuwe
Filmers biedt hen in de opstart een filmproducent als coach.
De korte films zijn gemaakt tijdens het One Week Film Project 2019. Teams van een nieuwe generatie jonge filmmakers maakten in 5 dagen tijd ieder een nieuwe korte film in elk denkbaar genre!
Het publiek kiest de winnaar van de Publieksprijs. De jury overhandigde de winnende regisseur en het team een cheque t.w.v. 200 euro + 2 kaarten Industry Day Go Short. >> NEWS >> De geldwaarde van de prijs werd zaterdagavond spontaan verhoogd met 500 euro door een spontane gift van Janneke Rijnders en Jos Claassen uit het publiek!! Wauw!
Ook reikte de jury negen categorieprijzen uit voor Beste regie, Beste scenario, Beste Acteur m/v, Beste Sounddesign, Beste Camera DOP (director of photography), Beste Editing, Beste Production Design en Beste Muziek! Afsluitend was er een ‘afterparty’ en meet en greet met de filmmakers in de foyer van de Verkadefabriek.
Extra prijzen voor alle deelnemende teams in het Natraject : – een One Hour Exclusive Date met filmdistributieprofessional Wouter Janssen van Some Shorts t.b.v. distributiemogelijkheden voor hun film. En een besloten ‘masterclass’ door de jury, n.a.v. het juryrapport, als extra exclusief coaching moment, met bespreking per film.

A man lives alone in a small apartment. The little contact he had with other people has dropped to zero since the rabbit appeared. Every attempt to get the rabbit out of his apartment has failed and since he is not sure whether or not pets are allowed in the building, he does not let anybody enter his apartment.

VFS Sound Design students need to collect a wide range of sounds to use in the soundscapes of their final projects.
This recording session was organized by current student Ryan Thompson for his final project, which required a lot of car noise. The students rented a "Dyno" from a local tuning shop in order to accelerate the car to exceedingly high speeds without the risk of actually taking it on the road.
