Day 8 Something Red
January 8th 2010
Finally friday had arrived! I still had my camera in my bag and needed to take a picture for today. First I had to pick up a couple of photobooks that I had made, before going to eat at "Mangaire" in Rotterdam. Last year I celebrated part of my 40th birthday here before they moved. After two moves on the same street they are finally up and running a 3rd time. What I love is the smells and sounds where, listening to Paolo Conte, and sipping a glass of Vino Rosso while waiting for my meal to arrive.
This is my piece of Italy in Rotterdam!
A Lady red—amid the Hill
Her annual secret keeps!
A Lady white, within the Field
In placid Lily sleeps!
The tidy Breezes, with their Brooms—
Sweep vale—and hill—and tree!
Prithee, My pretty Housewives!
Who may expected be?
The Neighbors do not yet suspect!
The Woods exchange a smile!
Orchard, and Buttercup, and Bird—
In such a little while!
And yet, how still the Landscape stands!
How nonchalant the Hedge!
As if the "Resurrection"
Were nothing very strange!

Retirement/trip planning duties have taken precedence over photography lately but I just had to join the red party.
Something Red - I racked my brain far too long on this one. Suddenly, I remembered that Cafe La Maze in National City has this fantastic red door. There is so much character in this door with the color, and also with the intricate carvings. I like the added pop of the brick wall inside of the restaurant; I feel like it adds another element of texture and pattern to the photo.
Truss tomatoes in watercolour - a challenge in itself for me - now that they have finished posing I am looking forward to eating them!
My new Christmas elf, on the window sill of my laundry, facing the drive.

Almost done. Need to reinforce the buttohole, find a button, fix that darn curling bottom border of the collar band, and finally a good blocking.

The New River Gorge Bridge carries US 19 over the New River at a height of 876 feet (267 m), making it the highest vehicular bridge in the Americas, and the second-highest in the world. Before the 2004 opening of the Millau Viaduct in France, it was the highest in the world. With a length of 3,030 feet (924 m), it was for many years the longest in the world of that type. It is now the third largest arch bridge in the world
