A button off the push button in the hospital. My husband Dave made it thru his shoulder surgery. Quite a bad injury and had to stay the night.

I say NO to ART (Albuquerque Rapid Transit)

Route 66 (Central Ave) here in Albuquerque has been the subject of controversy. The town government, without even consulting the business owners (so much for democracy) has decided to "Gentrify" the Nob Hill historic area. The small businesses (there are at least 70) that line up along this route will be closed to traffic for 3 months or more and undoubtedly some businesses will fold. This same type of project has been done in other cities and as a result the businesses that couldn't make it did in fact close. Their buildings were torn down and new bigger buildings were put in their place, with higher rent (that many can't afford). Gentrification isn't always a good thing!

This weeks theme is Something Red (In the style of Richard Telford) We are supposed to take a picture with something red in it, and turn the rest of the image black and white. I think everyone who did this technique had beautiful images, I love the way they all look! I'm in a bit of a different place though, I don't have a good editing program, and I'm not sure I need to learn this style, if I have to find an editing program to accomplish it. I still wanted to participate this week though, so I cheated a bit, and took a picture of Snoopy in his red Joe Cool shirt, on a gray background. So, my interpretation of the theme looks similar, I just got my results without any photoshopping, so I hope it is acceptable for the week!

I asked a couple of weeks ago about any free easy photo editing programs that anyone might know about. I appreciate the suggestions that you all gave, but one that used to be free, has changed to a paying program, and one that downloads to the computer, I will need to check out a bit further. Any other suggestions will be welcomed, I really need a very basic online editor, if one exists! Thanks in advance : )

Wishing everyone a lovely week!

A poinsettia (Euphorbia pulcherrima) Apparently named after Joel Roberts Poinsett, the first United States Minister to Mexico, who introduced the plant into the US in 1825, after finding them growing in the wild in South Mexico.

Can you guys manage to keep these things? I don't know what I do wrong, but they invariably start to lose leaves and I end up with just a stalk with one or two leaves on it, by the middle of January.

Riding on Ferry with cars parked in rows, loving the wind and the light and the vastness of the sea. It's all water and sky and light. Seems like taking a photo is pointless since it is ALL water and sky and light. Whatever land that is still visible is flat and fading into the distance. But I have to acknowledge what is creating lasting impressions. So the snapping begins.

Along the Roadside ~ Flickr Lounge

This wonderful, healthy 150 year old Oak tree stands at the end of my road. It was there before the road was built.

Sadly, because of our local council's deal with a road maintenance company, this tree is due to be felled. All because its trunk juts into the road a few centimetres!

Despite a long and complicated battle through the courts and much peaceful protesting by many residents we have been unable to prevent the felling.

It will be a very sad day indeed when they finally come to take it down.

Thank you to everyone who pauses long enough to look at my photo. Any comments or Faves are very much appreciated.

Ferocious. One of my most fave photos I've taken this year.

Saw this one at one of the shrines in Nikko. Somehow, it just caught my attention. We take some things for granted. Yet, sometimes, it's the things we take for granted that are of greater value... Yes, I know. A little too overdramatic over a fire extinguisher. But hey, think about it. ;)

This individual flew directly over me when I took this shot. It is slightly altered, I was able to adjust the background color to better emphasize the bird, otherwise it was against an almost white background, which washed out the bird.

Today, we had a virtual coffee tasting with my team at work. Everyone was sent samples and tasting glasses, along with a flavor wheel and a chart to record results. We were led by a coffee sommelier through the process of preparing and tasting coffee. The tasting was blind so we used numbers and colors to compare things in the right order. I can’t tell you whether Green, Red, or Blue was my favorite. I can tell you that Yellow was my least favorite. It smelled like sour milk. The tasting was fun and @driftawaycoffee did a great job.

Required elements:

1 - Your foot or feet

pretty sure I took this?

After I had watered my flowers I saw the water coming out from under the pot and creating this wonderful bokeh through my lens.

Day 8 Something Red

January 8th 2010

Finally friday had arrived! I still had my camera in my bag and needed to take a picture for today. First I had to pick up a couple of photobooks that I had made, before going to eat at "Mangaire" in Rotterdam. Last year I celebrated part of my 40th birthday here before they moved. After two moves on the same street they are finally up and running a 3rd time. What I love is the smells and sounds where, listening to Paolo Conte, and sipping a glass of Vino Rosso while waiting for my meal to arrive.

This is my piece of Italy in Rotterdam!
