Florida Everglades.... This area has been scoured clean of invasive plants so native ones can take root. Solution holes are formed as the limestone erodes or dissolves. The combination of rainfall and decaying vegetation often creates a weak acid which can dissolve the limestone.

polaroid of the elliott smith memorial/solutions store wall in silverlake {los angeles, ca}. this is probably one of my favourite polaroids that i've ever taken which was actually an "accidentally" good one. i took it from my car window without looking through the viewfinder.

I shall go the way of the open sea

To the lands I knew before you came

And the cool ocean breezes shall blow from me

The memory of your name!

Although it's now Nutrien Ag Solutions this facility is known as "Crop Pro" to the older employees on the Carolina Coastal (CLNA). This stalwart customer on the Belhaven Branch was formerly Crop Production Services, hence the old name still used.

While the facility has kept the branch going for years, Nutrien is just about to open a much larger facility in Bishops Cross, NC (just north of Pantego). Train 119 is actually pulling loads from Crop Pro and taking them to the new facility in this photo, leading me to believe this smaller old facility won't do much in the near future.

Thankfully, unlike many stories of closing industries, Nutrien's growth will be good for the Belhaven Branch and may even see daily runs from Pinetown once at full production.

The first thing to say is that each electronic sensor has a protective filter over it, so we are not actually touching the electronics. That would be a disaster. Most people send the camera off for a service and a clean and that's a very good idea. After all this is an expensive investment and we want to make sure our camera works as well as possible for as long as it can.

But, it is quite easy to clean your sensor at home. All you need is a kit (like the one I've shown). This includes sealed sterile swabs and a little cleaning fluid (they are essential - do not try to clean your sensor with a cloth where you can scratch the dust into the sensor filter). There are also many videos on YouTube showing you how to use these dust cleaning swabs, but provided you get the right size for your camera (mine is full frame) a simple swipe will suffice.

For a DSLR you obviously need to lock your mirror up before the clean, and then lower it immediately afterwards. Then with the other side of the swab give your mirror a quick wipe as well. Do not apply too much pressure. After all, these are only tiny dust particles - you should not have any dirt.

My Leica D-Lux 7 which I used to take these pictures has a fixed lens, so it will never need its micro-four-thirds sensor cleaned.

This is my wife's solution to my accumulated photography "junk" which was cluttering up our den. She was a dedicated soul. She not only picked it out, but allowed me to make the final choice between different "acceptable" units. Then she sanded and painted it herself. It is a computer armoire from a local unfinished furniture company. See the notes for more info.

Strobist: Taken with my Nikon Coolpix 5700 so I could have my D80 with 70-200 VR in the shot. Nuked the scene with Sunpak 383 through satin umbrella against the camera at camera left-- sorry, but I didn't note the power. Fired w/GI radio trigger.

WEEK 28 – Overstock Southaven (III)

Turning our attention to the last of the four “column-like” department signs/fixtures/whatever in the store, this one advertising “home solutions.” Anyone have a clue what hhgregg meant by “home solutions”? Didn’t think so XD

As far as Overstock’s layout goes, this side of the store feels a lot more focused on mattresses and beds than the other side, but it’s really not like there was any rigid departmentalized setup they were following.

Canon New F-1 + FD 35/3.5 s.c. + ILFORD HP5+ (D-76 stock solution)

These two salamanders were occupying the same crack in a tree in the backyard for about 6 weeks. It was hard to get pictures of them because they would retreat back into the crack as soon as a light was shinned on them. The solution was to place the camera on a tripod, set the focus, place the flash, wait ~15mins, in the dark, for them to come back out, and take pictures blind (still in the dark).

Every time I drive by Global 4, these two units are sitting around not doing anything. Finally, I catch them ECRX 3009 and 3008 shoving back with a lengthy cut of cars. A trio of brand new UP SD70AH's can be seen in the distance.
