In the distant fog of the sod farm were a few lonely trees.

Perched high atop the Alleghany Front, Dolly Sods is a mystery of nature. Upon reaching the top of the mountain, one leaves the deciduous forest and comes onto a desolate area, studded with pine trees whose growth is stunted, resulting in their lopsided appearance. Amidst the acres of huckleberry patches are large lakes of rocks, strewn about and stacked atop each other. Dolly Sods is an area that continues to baffle scientists who strive to explain this enigmatic landscape.

I went back through this set and found a few that I had not processed. I did this one in both color and black & white.

I reprocessed this one again because the flickr sharpening really made this too harsh. It's still a little too sharp for my taste but I can't control flickr sharpening...

All photos in this album were taken during a sailing passage from Iceland to Scotland via the Faroe Islands arranged by Rubicon 3. Sailing took place on Bluejay a Clipper 60 race boat. The Captain was Patrick Van der Zijden and the First Mate was Alex Booth. Including myself there were eight crew members.
