"Ralf...language please.".....Poor old Ralf is as bored witless with all this Chinese Virus/Plague business.....as we all are.....Thanks China.

Just glorious to get lost in all the Fall splendor.

Dolly Sods area of West Virginia.

The star trail there in this 6 minute exposure is of Venus. Morning from the Dolly Sods area in West Virginia.

The clouds that were there at sunset rapidly vanished with the setting sun ... nice that they did this as I was hoping for shooting into the night and the Milky Way there in West Virginia along the continental eastern divide.

Selective coloring on the red leaves that covered the bushes there in the Dolly Sods.

Dolly Sods on a pretty cloudy morning in Spring. Hope to get up here in the Fall now if all goes as planned. A pretty area in the West Virginia Mountains.

Sunset there in the Dolly Sods next to Bear Rocks

Pretty moonlight bathed the Dolly Sods area for this morning capture before dawn.

West Virginia

Evening view there in the pretty Dolly Sods of West Virginia.

The Dolly Sods comprise of boreal forest, heath barrens, grassy meadows and high altitude bogs. The climate is actually closer to Canada rather than West Virginia.

Fall in the Dolly Sods area, a magical place in the highlands of West Virginia. Probably will not make it up there this season ... but nice to remember the view here.

DOLLY SODS WILDERNESS

WEST VIRGINIA

The fall colors were more subdued this year at the Sods. The Wildlife Trail has a large number of American Beech along its length and here we did find a few trees in peak color display.

Pretty color and layers of the bushes in the Dolly Sods wilderness area.

A pretty morning in the highlands of West Virginia.

This one had some pretty strong light painting ... while my daughter and I were there in the dark this was using an LED light off to the right. First attempt to get timing on the light ... while stronger than I wanted, I did not delete it and used the brush editing tool within Lightroom to bring down the lighting highlights some.

The light for my daughter's capture was about right though. The issue was she was shooting the 60D with the Canon 10/22 lens at f3.5 for 30 seconds ... and I was shooting the Sigma 14mm at f1.8 for 15 seconds. The light painting was too strong for my exposure but about right for hers.

We quickly adapted with the light painting where we would start our exposures at the same time, I would turn the LED light on for about 1 to 3 seconds for my exposure, and then turn it off ... wait until my 15 second shot ended, and then lit up the elements again while her exposure continued on for the 30 seconds. That usually resulted in the same amount of light painting desired for each of our exposures.

We got this down pretty good as the night continued to darken.

At 17,000 plus acres, this high-altitude plateau along the Allegheny Front of West Virginia contains a unique ecosystem similar to portions of Canada. Weather is always a question in this area of red spruce forests, cranberry bogs, rocky terrain and grassy balds. The name Dolly Sods comes from an 18th century homesteading family, the Dahles, and a local term for an open mountaintop meadow, a sod.

View is from along the Bear Rocks/Raven Ridge Trails.

Fun exposing for this capture in the extreme dynamic range here for one exposure. Quite the moody time with the sun fighting to shine through the clouds over the highlands there in West Virginia.

Morning at Södermalm, Stockholm.

Late afternoon light there in the Dolly Sods of West Virginia.

Winter did not want release its hold on the West Virginia highlands in the April capture.

Liked the late morning light and earthly tones and colors that dominated the scene.

Dolly Sods Wilderness is one of the most unique and beautiful areas I have ever visited. This image was taken backing 2014, but had to wait for my photoshop skills to catch up with my what my photographic eye envisioned.

This shot at Bear Rocks Preserve in West Virginia was taken on the first outing of a photography workshop last spring. Located at the northern end of the Dolly Sods Wilderness, this area is more well-known for its sunrises, but it's so photogenic up there, one could get a good shot any time of day. I was drawn to this spot as it's different from the rest of the terrain and not just a giant pile of boulders.

Let me know what you think in the comments.

Thanks for viewing!

For a good while now, I've been carrying my Fujifilm with me everywhere as it is so conveniently sized. Having it with me has encouraged me to take more photographs and revealed a few nice results.

Today, as I went downstairs and in to the car to head off shopping, I remembered I didn't have it. Nevermind... just going shopping.

Of course today, on this shopping trip, I discovered this car parked on Main Street.

What a superb example of a restored Beetle. How I wished I had a proper camera.....

... Dolly Sods that is. Early morning capture with moonlight coming in from the west as well on the foreground rocks, giving a nice mix of light for this morning pre-dawn view.
