10 pallets of sod arrive as we gear up to add grass to our yard!

Sod roofs are typical of the Faroe Islands. Traditionally the roof is covered with sod on top of several layers of birch bark over gently sloping wooden roof boards. However, modern turf roofs often use a type of commercial roofing felt underneath the sod. Sod is also an effective insulator in a cold climate. Typically, a sod roof will last about 10 or more years before it has to be replaced. Some residents actually mow their roofs to keep them looking good.

the sorry sods began as a dorm-room band, and functioned quite well as one for a long time, but somehow my clearest memories of our good times together were all in this room, matt's bedroom at the boulevard house. picking small bits of dirt out of the shag carpet and idly whacking the bongos i would grab lyrics from random book titles and weird records; matt would mishear what i was saying and end up turning the random words into something far more coherent and convincing ("you oil the night with blood-ticks" being probably his best work in this vein), and we would generally crack ourselves up for hours over the stupidest of all our recordings and schemes. one of my dreams remains that somehow, some way, we will reconvene for a new project, revisiting some old songs and goofing out some whole new ones.

matt did that painting, by the way. if memory serves it ended up in the garbage because he just got sick of it, something to which i can certainly relate with regard to stuff that's been on my walls too long. it was a great painting though.
