Homesteaders cut bricks from sod to make cheap soddies, warm in the winter, cool in the summer. But the walls often leaked and floors could turn to mud.

Meet Jesse... he is a hard-working gentleman, a part of the landscaping crew doing my yard.

Jesse asked very politely if I'd take his picture. I tried to get him to relax a little, but he was very serious about posing professionally. He straightened his stance and held the rake like a fine tool of his trade.

One can sense the pride and that he feels very good about himself. He told me that he's 37 years old and has two sons and a daughter. He is anxious to show these photos to his wife. "She will see I am hard worker!", he said with a smile.

He takes a lot of pride in his work and does a great job. A very likable guy!

Roll me some grass, man.
