From Nikon Learn & Explore

"Nikon's new Pet mode, available in select models, lets you capture the expressions of your pet cat or dog automatically. When the Pet scene mode is chosen, the camera automatically releases the shutter at the moment the pet's face is detected. Because the subject is tracked and the picture taken when it looks directly toward the camera, you won't miss the right moment to shoot."

Day 19 — Stay Home, Stay Healthy!

We get pretty familiar with the deer that share space with us. We often see them from their very first wobbly days. Something I wouldn’t have seen if I hadn’t stayed home to reduce the spread of covid-19.

Sailboats anchored in scenic Tod Inlet at sunset. This tree-lined cove is accessible only by boat or by hiking the Tod Inlet or Tod Creek Trail. Along the shore are the remains of the piers of the old cement plant loading docks as well as birdhouses for purple martins attached to the pilings. Gowlland Tod Provincial Park, Vancouver Island, BC.

Tod Inlet was used by the Vancouver Portland Cement Company in the early 1900s and there are many remnants of old buildings, train tracks, and pillars that were used as a large dock for steamships. It was a thriving industry until the land used for limestone quarrying was exhausted in 1912 (now the site of the adjacent world famous Butchart Gardens) and operations were subsequently moved to Bamberton, across the Saanich Inlet.

Strange and worrying times. A week ago I was taking this photo I knew we were in for difficult times but for a moment I was single minded in getting this photo in-between the incessant rain. Back at my desk and processing this photo the reality of where we are is a constant thought. Everybody please take care, listen and take heed to the advice you are given and please think of others and don’t be selfish.

... sorry, that there are not so many new pictures over here - I have rediscovered another hobby :-). For me, intensive endurance sport is a nice way to compensate the current slightly run-down existence.

Well at least the penguins get it.

"Oh you glorious Westminster Bubble,

Long may you stay in power and

Protect the privileges of the few.

Give us plenty of grouse.

Continue to bless us with one rule,

And curse the masses with another.

Keep us grouse shooters exempt

From the social distancing rules.

Continue to forgive us when we trespass,

But let no Tom, Dick and Harry

Trespass into our hunting grounds!

Deliver us from environmentalists and

Social justice fanatics.

And we shall always vote for you

Giving juicy donations to the Tory Party."
