This was taken aboard the fabulous "Jewel of the Seas" cruise ship. I was fortunate enough to go on a 5 day Caribbean cruise to Cozumel and Costa Maya. Of course, I was just "snappin' away" - this photo is from Day 1 of the cruise, but I will post more soon.
As I walk through the valley of the shadow and light
I take a look through my lens to get the meterin’ right
'Cause I've been focusin' and snappin’ pics for so long
That even both memory cards are all gone
But I ain't never made a pic that didn't deserve it
You know I take the shot cause I wanna preserve it
You better be polite and say how do you do ma’am
Ain’t never gonna see my pictures posted on I-gram
I really hate to trip, but I just gotta hope
As I post, that my pics get a few more upvotes
Fool, I’m the kinda dweeb that likes to take selfies
On my knees in the night, tryin’ to focus by streetlight.

Oh what a night it was in the land of Swirl'n mic Mad-ness! From the get-go we knew this inaugural kick-off at the NEW Absinthe Lounge was gonna be one to remember!
As Swirve started their jazzy madness, the crowd found their way into and filled the VIP lounge with their heads boppin' and their fingers snappin'. As the last notes were fading away, hosts Johnny O & MH Clay opened up the stage to our featured the mad-tastic dynamic duo Opalina Salas & Maggie Smith. There was no doubt that they would deliver a must-see kinda show and sure enough, it was something mighty divine to see and feel! If you were there, you know what we mean. If not, well... your loss, truly. Sorry.
After a brief intermission, the mic got opened up to the mad ones who filled the Lounge and what a night of the beat-utifullest poetry and music ensued! Here’s a shout out to all who graced us with their words, their songs, their divine madnesses…

Between lectures in Uni the other day I was in the canteen with some guys and girls on my course. To my right I noticed this table of girls that were being illuminated beautifully by the light coming through the windowed wall behind the red-headed girl.
Well, I just had to take a shot didn't I! I've got my 40mm on as well, so it'll be nice and easy to get the shot. I set up my camera on my bag on my lap and began taking shots whilst looking in the opposite direction. I had no idea if these images were framed right or in focus or anything, so I just took loads. Eventually, (assuming my cover hadn't been compromised) I looked at the back of my camera to see what was going on.
To my shock the last set of 10 images revealed the girls staring directly into my lens and laughing.
Busted...
I laughed and shamefully bowed my head in to my hands. I looked over at the girls and laughed with them, then swallowed my pride and moved over to them to explain in (hopefully) the most reasonable way that what I was doing was for the sake of art and photography, and not me being creepy and weird.
They seemed to get it and I apologised, saying I'd delete the photos if they wanted. They were fine with me keeping the images, so I said thanks and sorry again, moved back to my own table and put my camera away.
This image is actually a composite of three separate images. Each image being the optimum facial expression of each girl. Hopefully that doesn't come across too much!
I really enjoyed creating the colour tones and editing this photo, even though it was just a fun little snapshot on the spur of the moment I treated it like it was something important.
I have no idea who these girls are either, I'd love to show them the image, hopefully I'll bump into one of them some time soon.
an original first year snappin turtle mower 1951-52 can't remember the exact year. they later changed the name to snapper.
Okay, Ross wanted to see progress, so I was snappin some, but it's way too hard! Can't keep the camera still, lighting is bad, etc. But there's definitely some more girth to my arms now, so that's kinda cool!
The FPP guys spent a great morning at Ringwood Manor in Jersey walking around snappin' 'pitures'. Lots of fun.
it was so nice and sunny out this morning, i couldn't resist snappin' a few fairy pix. She didn't even seem to notice!
Not my normal sort of upload, but I couldn't resist ... Been needing a new pair of boardies and wandered into the tiny awesome surf shop out at shilshole here at lunch and spotted these, only pair there was. MINE. DONE. Oldskool snappin all over my swimmin.

Walkin', talkin' and snappin' with the incredible Qua at the Bumbershoot Music Festival in Seattle.....
[the previous posts of kids playing in a water fountain were shot at a huge fountain on the Seattle Center grounds. This gentleman, dressed in street clothes complete with his street shoes spent a good 45 minutes in some kind of ritualized game of his own. He would stand facing the giant globe spewing water and walk in a straight line until he was soaked; turn around and walk back in a straight line; turn around, face the globe, wait five minutes and then repeat the same walk....there really wasnt much of a smile on his face as he did it....more businesslike than anything else.....but, hey, who am I to judge what gets people off....]
Day 335 of 365 (~ take 3)
It's been over a month since I've picked up my camera. Sad. BUUUUT...it's a new month - the last month of the year - and it's time to get snappin' again. That, my friends, is a reason for Joy :)
My scruffy ass can only plant one on her cheek when she steals my phone and starts snappin pictures for Snapchat..
We were at a party
His ear lobe fell in the deep
Someone reached in and grabbed it
It was a rock lobster
We were at the beach
Everybody had matching towels
Somebody went under a dock
And there they saw a rock
It wasn't a rock
It was a rock lobster
Motion in the ocean
His air hose broke
Lots of trouble
Lots of bubble
He was in a jam
S'in a giant clam
Down, down
Underneath the waves
Mermaids wavin'
Wavin' to mermen
Wavin' sea fans
Sea horses sailin'
Dolphins wailin'
Red snappers snappin'
Clam shells clappin'
Muscles flexin'
Flippers flippin'
Down, down
Let's rock!
Boy's in bikinis
Girls in surfboards
Everybody's rockin'
Everybody's fruggin'
Twistin' 'round the fire
Havin' fun
Bakin' potatoes
Bakin' in the sun
Put on your noseguard
Put on the lifeguard
Pass the tanning butter
Here comes a stingray
There goes a manta-ray
In walked a jelly fish
There goes a dogfish
Chased by a catfish
In flew a sea robin
Watch out for that piranha
There goes a narwhale
HERE COMES A BIKINI WHALE!

This is number 31 of 100 in my 100 Strangers photo project.
This is Mark Galloway from Lower Hutt, Tenor Saxophonist in "Finger Snappin' Goodness", a jazz trio with Stranger #32 Michael and Stranger #33 Cliff...and an employee at Rock Shop, a New Zealand chain of music stores.
Mark's been playing the sax for about 15 years and has been into music for his entire life. Finger Snappin' Goodness has been together for about 9 years on and off now. They play in Shed 5 every Sunday afternoon.
I wasn't really planning on shooting any Strangers today, instead I wanted to play with one of my film cameras (an old school Mamiya C330 TLR), so I packed light, just my 50mm and the Mamiya. I don't have a proper light meter yet, so I'm currently using my DSLR as a light meter...a bit cumbersome I know :(
The weather was a bit overcast and damp today, so there weren't many people out along the waterfront. I decided to walk by Shed 5 anyways and poke my head inside. I've always wanted to photograph someone inside as they've got lots of areas with great light. Wooden floors with post and beam ceilings. One section of Shed 5 has a glass solarium with white table cloths offering up opportunities for great light! However to my dismay, it was completely empty. I guess that's what I get for dropping by in between service hours...too late for brunch and too early for dinner. But I heard some smooth jazz coming from inside, so I took a peek and saw a jazz trio playing in the corner. I liked what I was hearing so decided to stick around for a song or two, meanwhile checking out the room for future photo ops since it was completely empty. Sooner or later a few patrons came in for an afternoon beer though.
I spotted this red velvet curtain that was closing off the dining area from the bar section. It sits on top of a short set of stairs. It's at the end near the solarium so it was getting some nice light. With only the 50mm and no flash today, I wasn't sure what kind of framing I'd be able to get. I fired off a few test shots to see what kind of exposure settings I'd be dealing with. Luckily the bar wasn't busy as I had to stand way back in order to frame something usefull with the 50mm...stupid cropped sensor! :P Figuring the light would be ok even without a fill flash, I instantly knew I had to ask the trio for a group shot. Turns out, I also asked them to participate as my Strangers. But wouldn't you know it, I didn't even remember to shoot them with the Mamiya until after I walked out the door! DOH!!!
"What was the last thing you ate before becoming Strangers #31 Mark?" ...NOTHING!!! ...wait a minute, he hadn't eaten anything all day...so I had to stretch the time line to the day before...
"What was the last thing you ate LAST NIGHT then Mark?" ...wood fired pizza.
Thanks for participating Mark.
You can see the alternate portraits of Mark in my 100 Strangers Alternates set, and you can see my other strangers in my 100 Strangers set, and strangers from other participating photographers in the 100 Strangers flickr pool. Learn more about the 100 Strangers photo project here.
