The smart marque began as a collaboration between Volkswagen and the Swiss watch brand Swatch. After VW pulled out from the project, Daimler-Benz stepped in to provide the vehicle architecture.
The first smart brand car was launched in 1998. The car was a short two-seat city car. The car was known as the Smart City Coupe and Smart City Cabriolet.
A second line was added in 2003 the Smart Roadster (R452) shown, and the Smart Roadster Coupe (C452). The two shared the basic architecture and design, differing primarily in the Roadster having a flat luggage/engine lid behind the rollbar, while the Roadster Coupe had a glass hatch section in the place. Both cars had a removable 'targa' panel over the two occupants, spanning the windscreen and the rollbar.
The Roadster and Roadster Coupe also shared many mechanical systems with the Smart city car (to be renamed Smart Four-Two in 2004), including the engine/transmission systems and suspension. The Smart Roadster and Roadster Coupe had a much lower set 'Tridion' safety cell.
For such an appealing compact sportscar, the Smart Roadster had a short lifespan, being removed from market at the end of 2005.

I have decided to sell my Roadster … I purchased the car new in March 2004. The vehicle has a number of cosmetic and mechanical modifications. When I drove it today to a location to take some photos it felt good to slip through the gears for what may be the last time. The car spent nearly four years in storage while I drove around in a company car. Since November 2019 the car has only been out of the garage on five occasions so I think it time to part with it ...
On Saturday night we went to the Erotic LA convention.
The dictionary defines erotic as something that is of or concerns sexual love or desire.
This convention missed that mark by a mile. There was nothing titillating, tempting or erotic about the experience.
They wanted $30 a person to get in. We got ticket stubs from people who were leaving and said it was pretty much a shopping experience. They were right. Once we got in we found ourselves at what was basically a porn swap meet. A rennaissance fair is more erotic than what they had going on here.
It was rows and rows of glass dildos and DVDs and g-strings and corsets made of shiny, cheap synthetic fabric. The people walking around fell into pretty much two categories: Women with huge plastic boobs, fake blond hair and too much make up wearing teeny school girl skirts with platform stripper shoes and guys in groups or alone with bags of DVDs signed with x's and o's and a heart over the "i" in Brandi or Candi or Tiffani or Tami.
For anything I would consider erotic this totally blew, but for photo ops it was a target rich environment and I was kicking myself for not bringing the camera.
When we left we were talking about what would've made it actually erotic and our ideas were endless but better lighting was at the top of the list as well as music that didn't sound like the soundtrack to a bad porn movie.
That would be a start.
What does it say about our culture when badly lit porn scored with bad music being sold in bad lighting to the sounds of the same music is considered erotic?

The new smart fortwo and forfour are codeveloped with Renault, which uses the same platform for the Twingo city car. The fortwo and forfour come with three engine options: a 60 PS base model, a 71 PS 1,0-litre and a turbocharged 90 PS 0,9-litre engine (all sourced from Renault). Unlike their predecessors they both don't come with a diesel engine.
Since it's no longer based on the supermini Mitsubishi Colt, but instead being based on the same platform as the rear-wheel-drive new Twingo, it's one class smaller. It now shares its automobile layout with another Mitsubishi: the Kei car 'i' and the electric i-MiEV (Citroën C-Zero, Peugeot iOn).

The car is a 999cc 2008 Smart which lives at a local garden centre, the DVLA has the colour as green, well, that it is!

A very smart Bristol FS6G Lodekka, recently out of the paint shop by the look of it and ready for some sort of non-PSV use. A driver training bus is the first thing that comes to mind. At Bristol Omnibus Co. they always took the back out of the cab and built up the front offside seat on a platform, for the instructor. This doesn't appear to have been done here, but other companies may not have modified their training buses in the same way. And what about the trade plate? This would seem to indicate that the vehicle was not yet licenced and was undergoing road tests.

In future Smart Grids, electricity will no longer be centrally generated in large power stations but increasingly in small, local units. Even residential buildings will become producers of electricity. Photovoltaic modules on the roof or facade will directly supply electricity which is then fed into the network. In addition, intelligent building technology will ensure a reduction in building power consumption, for example with more needs-based air conditioning and ventilation technology..
