Staithes - North Yorkshire Coast

I was on a photowalk with Eva and Johan, toward the end of the walk we saw this fountain.

And being such a beautiful and sunny day it was a perfect moment for slowmotion water.

This was an impressive transitional process from one photo to another. The image seemed to melt away in slow motion.

(There's a soundtrack with this one -- just a heads-up in case you're at work with the volume on. Also, this is a pretty large file. Depending on your connection speed, to achieve smooth playback, you may have to download the file and play it in Windows Media Player or whatever the Apple or Linux equivalents are. And it does look best at full 1080p resolution.)

If you've seen the previous two videos in my 'stream, you've seen how human technology can slow down our view of nature in action to reveal details we'd otherwise not be able to discern. This video shows how mother nature herself does slow-motion...sort of an analog experience in a digital world.

I've been meaning to try this for ages. This is 1/4 speed at Full HD resolution which is what you get with 'high frame rate' on the 90D. I can do slower speeds with the Sony RX10 Mark IV but the quality is a lot lower.

This video shows how to break (liquid) water. The surface of a bowl of water was coated with a dusting of talcum powder and then a droplet of liquid soap was dropped into the center. The soap lowers the tension of the water causing it to expand. Since the water has no where to go, stresses build up in the surface until it ruptures. You can see the droplet falling in the beginning of the video. This isn't actually that fast. It was originally filmed at 3000 frames per second with a 10usec exposure per frame, but I sped it up by a factor of 4 to make a better movie. The camera is a Vision Research Phantom v7.3 high speed video camera.

My workshop has never looked so good ; /

Wine glass was clamped down on a 4' 2x4 piece of wood at an angle. Wine was not used, but rather water with red food coloring. It took 30+ shots to get just the right one. Lighting used 2 clamp work lights 75 watts each. One was behind a white sheet of paper located behind the glass. The other clamp light was below the wine glass, bottom left corner.
