My neighbor called me to come look at this 3ft red diamondback rattler he found on his property. I asked him if he wanted me to remove it and he said no just let it go. So we watched it climb up the stairs into some rocks. Personally I’d rather take it off of the property cause it is awfully close to my property. It’s okay, there’s a good chance I’ll find it, or someone else will and THEN I’ll take it further on down the road. LOL

Found it slithering along the montane tar road in the national park. Set it up for a quickie 2-minute shoot.

When I saw my first Alyogyne - and learned how to pronounce it, a word which just slithers off the tongue - all encounters were of the yellow, blue, and purple flowers were of them six or more feet off the ground. In my third week, I finally looked down, and was surprised not only to find them there, but to find a "whole bunch," the latter the term used like flock, covey, parliament (owls), murder (crows). Anyway, nine Alogyne in one spot was a treat. Composing it had some obstacles, but the obstacles - mostly cacti spines - were within reach, and I reached.
Alyogyne is a genus of flowering plants in the family Malvaceae which are endemic to Australia. Its species were formerly in the genus Hibiscus but were split off starting in 1863 with H. hakaeifolius. In 1915 Lewton transferred H. cuneiformis and in Fryxell (1968) H. pinonianus and H. huegelii followed. A recent revision has created many new species.
The name Alyogyne comes from the Greek words "alytos" (undivided) and "gyne" (female). "Gyne" referers to the styles which are female parts of a flower. In Hibiscus, the style is branched below the stigmas but in Alyogyne it is undivided.
Note: Since I first wrote this and saw the flower, it has been moved from hibiscus to whatever. I don't know why I ever give the history of the flowers. While birds are often named after the first person to find one, shoot it, and paint it, or named after a friend of a friend who loaned 50 p in 1798, flowers, when named after people, have the name in Latin with "ious" or "ii" following.
And, that's all she wrote!
What slithers before you is a baby Spitting Cobra. Plenty of snakes vacate my house, but never before a venomous killer. Even at this length, roughly 30 cm, this toddler still packs a punch and not something you'd want to come face to face with.
Mellowing out to some Chet, I was suddenly disturbed by the dogs barking. Normally, I would let it pass, but this, this was different. Call it intuition, sensitivity or plain curiosity, I felt the sudden urge to see what the noise was about.
Naturally, I had my phone and new telephoto lens at hand and started snapping away. It was a great opportunity to test out the lens, but little did I know the potential danger I was in.
Luckily, my neighbour is a snake-wrangling enthusiast and so I messaged him and Rex was over within the minute.
He was not able to identify the species straight away but after further examination, Rex was sure that it was a Cobra. The triangular body, small scales and lose skin gave it away.
Thankfully, the telephoto lens allowed me to be up to 2 meters away from the Cobra and lessened the chance of an attack. Unfortunately, the pictures I took closer up (30cm-1m) before I was aware that the snake was a not only venomous but also a spitter, didn't come out great. So, the one you see at hand was from roughly 2 meters away.
This pushed to lens to its max and so the picture doesn't have great resolution and sharpness, but still acceptable.
Never a dull day living in the rice fields :).

Words are flowing out like endless rain into a paper cup
They slither wildly as they slip away across the universe
Pools of sorrow, waves of joy are drifting through my opened mind
Possessing and caressing me
Jai Guru Deva, Om
Nothing's going to change my world
Images of broken light which dance before me like a million eyes
They call me on and on across the universe
Thoughts meander like a restless wind inside a letter box
They tumble blindly as they make their way across the universe
Jai Guru Deva, Om
Nothing's going to change my world
Sounds of laughter, shades of life are ringing through my open ears
Inciting and inviting me
Limitless undying love which shines around me like a million suns
It calls me on and on, across the universe
Jai Guru Deva, Om
Nothing's going to change my world

#1218 Mystery Portal
Today's story and sketch by me, began when deputy Malestir on the right, the beautiful seeker fashion model Lemonika, you see slithering down the steps of the Budahunga Sky Lounge, and Saint Pete you see with his man cave deathray blaster, and whoopaa disc. The three were enjoying adult beverages when downstairs in the kitchen there came a massive explosion, clanging and banging. It seems a couple, Mr and Mrs Kalump you see in their spacecraft, were on their way to a dinner party at the senior center at the Martian Paradise Mobil Estates, where they have a beautiful Tudor style double wide. On that trip to the party, something went very wrong with the navigation computer, as they pulled out of the garage the computer took complete control of the craft, and started playing opera music, then went into a stargate a negative energy worm hole. That journey started last month, tonight the Kalump's Spacecraft entered through a Mystery delivery Portal into the Sky Lounge Kitchen traveling at what Saint Pete estimated to be four hundred miles an hour, it came to a stop where it sits. The Kalump's are shaken and hungry, but happy to be alive, not sure how long happy will last, when they find out they are on the Planet Budahunga, and will be forever. Seems the "NAVO" Navigation Virus has followed the Man Cave Posse to Budahunga. Until next week ta ta the Rod Blog.

Love this way he's lying on the branch. He slowly slithered into a comfortable position on the branch.
