All slips and mooring at Oyster Bay where taken when we arrived, so we dropped anchor among about a hundred boats. This shot was taken from the dinghy as some of the crew went exploring. Later we sailed over to Sheffield Island off the coast of Connecticut and then to Port Jefferson. This was the beginning of several days of living off the twelve volt boat batteries and and not having access to the Internet.

Sheets and Slips
Even when it’s freezing, on solitary bike trips home
As I pass over drain covers in the middle of the glistening, perpendicular streets,
Something belies the solidity and grid of Chicago
And of my own sense of where and who I am.
Somehow, despite the cold
I hear the reassuring summery gurgle of water—
Liquid and lively, so unlike the frigid rectangles above—
Rushing towards somewhere important
All beneath my wheels,
And I sense that the city is adrift
Tentative and hesitant
Pitched between chaos and opportunity
Bobbing like a bottle
On hidden currents
Like the sheets of ice I see on Lake Michigan
Carried here and there by the tug of
Streams
Slipping to we know not where
Before they are eaten away to nothingness
By the gentle lapping of warmer water.
The city’s fixed, the air biting, the ground ice-hard,
But underneath the urban crust
There’s warmth and movement
Lurking growth
But also, from these manhole covers,
The whiff of sulfur
A rotting stink, as if the city
Is subsiding into something less than alive.
The original slips were planted in the May of 2015. We got a huge harvest in December of 2015. I left some of the stems in the ground and the plant came back in early summer of 2016, now I get to harvest even more and larger sweet potatoes without ever planting. LOVE IT!
I am only harvesting what I want to cook with, so the rest of the sweet potatoes can continue to grow in the ground since they are a permanent installment in my garden.

We represent injury victims that were involved in an automobile accident, slip and also fall, or various other occurrences which result in injury, fall, or disability.
The old tractor at Van Saun park/zoo. I think it's neat, but the kids ignore it since they aren't allowed to climb on it. I still have family who farm, so to me it's a little sad to see it sitting there rusting. Just a reminder of how disconnected we are from the land today.
I'm also playing around a bit with a faux HDR finish since my camera can shoot the exposures, but I don't have software to put them together.
My foot slips on a narrow ledge: in that split second, as needles of fear pierce heart and temples, eternity intersects with present time. Thought and action are not different and stone, air, ice, sun, fear and self are one. What is exhilarating is to extend this acute awareness into ordinary moments, experiencing which, in the moment-by-moment, finding themselves at the centre of things, have no need for any secret of true being. In this very breath that we all take now lies the secret that all great teachers try to tell us, “the precision and openness and intelligence of the present.”
