Lots of space is available on this morning at the Bridge Bay Marina on Yellowstone Lake in Yellowstone National Park. The Bay, named for a nearby natural bridge, provides shelter for boats from the storms and high winds that are common on Yellowstone Lake. In the early days of park the boats were tied up in open unprotected waters of the lake in front of the Lake Hotel. In the 1970's Bridge Bay was developed to shelter the boats and handle the increased boat traffic. The large boat at the back is the Lake Queen II that gives guided tours of the lake in the Lake Village- Stevenson Island vicinity.

"This is a big bike, far larger than I am accustomed to and more suited to retired NFL linebackers than scrawny motorcycle journalists like yours truly. Nevertheless, I pushed and prodded the Kawasaki Voyager for nearly 2,000 miles, from high velocity highway runs in VA to the NC hills during RoadRUNNER's Touring Weekend and everywhere in between. The Kawasaki performed without complaint, with good power and agility that belied it's size.
The motor was a peach, full of vibey v-twin character below 3,000 RPM followed by a strong clean run to the redline. When pushed hard, like accelerating hard onto the highway in 3rd gear, the motor delivered. But cruising in 6th (overdrive) at highway speeds of 70 mph plus put the motor in a rough, coarse part of its powerband. The alternatives were to either go faster or downshift, neither ideal but tolerable.
In the mountains the bike was limited more by its floorboards than it’s bulk, responding well to quick bar inputs until the sound of metal scraping pavement put a damper on the festivities. Front and rear brakes were powerful and exhibited no signs of fading, while the suspension kept most body motions in check. Only on a rapid left-right flick did the bike feel out of sorts.
It took me until the end of my time with the bike to ‘get it’ - to understand the bike’s sweet spot. The bike was in its element on the quieter byways of Southeastern Pennsylvania, the motor burbling gently at a tick over 2,000 RPM, the speedo oscillating between 40 and 50 mph. This less frenetic pace gave me more brainspace to appreciate the cruise control, the supportive seat, the good stereo and myriad other details that make the Voyager a suitable secondary road companion. Stay in this sweet spot and the Kawasaki is a solid choice."

March came into Washinton like a chameleon; snow, sunshine, rain, sleet. If you don't like the weather just wait five minutes for the next edition. This semi lost control and slipped off of I-5 in the sloppy driving conditions.
