A lateral shot of Musgraveia sulciventris which is a true bug in family Tessaratomidae with piercing and sucking mouthparts. These bugs live in forests, orchards and gardens in coastal areas here in Australia. Feeding on plants belonging to the citrus family Rutaceae.
Commonly called bronze orange bugs, they are known for their ability to produce unpleasant chemicals when disturbed. They can squirt a foul smelling fluid that will burn human skin and cause great discomfort if it gets in the eyes.
This was one of a large grouping covering a single plant. It is a 4th or 5th instar nymph.

I was photographing some dahlias at Wright-Locke Farm when I heard Slim calling for me. He and his brother, Turbo, enjoy attention, so I left the dahlias and visited the goats.

Whatever this Willet was pulling out of the sand at Bolivar Flats was apparently barely worth the effort since he had to keep it up for quite a while to get his fill.
Slim was following me for pats, and not letting me get enough distance for a photo. He's very affectionate! There's also a lot of him to pat/scratch, as he's the size of pony. That's the Squash House at Wright-Locke Farm behind him.
For the first time that I remember, my crabapple tree had almost no fruit this year, likely due to the sustained rainy weather during pollination time. A few days ago a lone Cedar Waxwing showed up (when do you ever see just one Cedar Waxwing?!) and managed to find a shrivelled crabapple.

It was slim pickins on the Pickens today, with the Belton Job not running because of a derailment, the Anderson Job would be the only job we would see.

On the stony ground of the woodland floor in Lokrum, this little chap was well camouflaged. Not a bird I get to see often, especially as a youngster, I was a bit surprised at first.

In Khao Yai NP we came across this beautiful Oriental Whip Snake (Ahaetulla prasina). A mildly venomous species, which is commonly found in forested and rural areas. It feeds on vertebrates, including small nesting birds, lizards and frogs. The young are born alive and are brownish in colour while the adults are commonly fluorescent green. This one was yellow/orange though...
