Took a solo mission earlier this week. The bulk of the day was spent in Glen Strathfarrar (yet to look at my images from there) but as you need to be out of the glen before 1900 a different sunset location was required. I made a brief stop at Rogie Falls but Loch Droma on the Ullapool road was always my intended spot, though I messed my timings up somewhat, arriving with over 2 hours to spare. The forecast cloud looked promising and the wind was supposed to drop so I had high hopes for a long-overdue decent sunset. Despite my perseverance there was to be little sunset colour and the wind speed actually increased to a stiff breeze; it was hard to be too disappointed however, with some lovely textured cloud and the stunning backdrop of An Teallach at one of my favourite locations.

Taken at Old Bar, NSW.

A wet night saw many birds drying off this morning, and still looking slightly bedraggled! Many, like this Hobby were quite happy to soak up a few rays before setting out for the day!

The hobby is a solitary and aggressive falcon using rapid flickering wing beats, with tail fanned when hovering. It glides on flat or slightly drooped wings with carpals flexed and outerwings swept back. Its flight is often characterised as low and fast, zig-zagging over or between vegetation and open ground.

Slightly bigger than a mallard, these long-necked and small-headed ducks fly with a curved back pointed wings and a tapering tail, making this the best way to distinguish them from other ducks in the UK.

The pintail is a 'quarry' species, meaning that it can be legally shot in winter, but - unlike in parts of Europe - it does not appear that shooting is affecting their population status in the UK. The small breeding population and significant winter population make them an Amber List species.

HFF! Taken from a friend's condo today.

Slightly comical pigeon with a hairdo just like Alfalfa in "Our Gang"! (Google it, kids).

Where have I seen that sky before? Sky replacement with Luminar 4.

Slightly later on the same afternoon as the previous shot, Northern Sprinter DMU 158848 has just emerged from Shotlock Hill tunnel, and is heading south towards Garsdale with a Carlisle to Leeds service.

I've been wanting to try this shot for a while. The B6259 road is the main focus here as it dips and twists, and there was just enough of a handy gap on the right hand-side of the frame for a 2-car DMU to fit into quite nicely.

I've only been slightly obsessed with Yandere Simulator lately for the past six months, and I was able to get my hands on a Winter Yandere-chan style school uniform. Of course Miyako had to wear it first, since she's the closest thing I've got to a yandere in my doll family XD; In fact, rumor has it around Miyako's high school that she and her brother are cannibals... but who would honestly believe something like that?

finally an analog picture again. In the last few months I've had too much on my mind ... despite Corona. Well - new year, new luck. Let's see how the Yashica is doing.

This is just another angle of my new Emile. I added some battle damage to the helmet and added onto the skull.

HTT and Happy Tree-mendous Tuesday ;o)

Taken using an infrared 'Super Goldie' filter in a digital converted Nikon D80. The usual effect of the Super Goldie is to make the sky deep gold, and the trees blue. But if you apply a FAUX (false) action to your shot it will invert the colours so the sky is back to being blue - but so also are rocks, stones, paths and buildings! And the leaves now become a gentle yellow ochre golden tint (certainly not green again!) Making the Super Goldie FAUX effect is the topic of my latest page on my Talking Digital Photography website - if you are interested in what IR photography can offer you ;o)

Slightly late post because I haven't had an Internet connection, looking forward to catching up on everyone's work from the past week! (:

After a slightly stormy ascent of Beinn Achaladair and Beinn a’ Chreachain, we descended via Coire an Lochain then through the wonderful Crannach Wood, forded the Water of Tulla and returned to the car. We started the day in good weather, ran into rain on our ascent, then hail and snow higher up on the two summits. Although we were in rain or snow on the tops we never actually lost visibility as the clouds were above us. The hills all around us appeared to be having lovely weather - sun and righteousness come to mind - but at least we finished the day as we started, in sunshine.

I'm kicking myself for not spending more time with this gorgeous cat to get it in focus but, at least I have this. Besides there is a splendid sunset going on in the background.

The Holiday lights are just starting to be strung.

Another from the Milky Way shoot on Friday night. The atmosphere was simply perfect...clear skies, slightly windy which kept us from being devoured alive by the mosquitoes and warm enough not to need an extra layer of clothes.

Learning the timing of getting the rays in the lighthouse beam, or just the glow of the light ...learning the correct exposure to ensure round pindots of stars and not oblong blobs! It was fascinating and so interesting that i had no idea that when it was over, it was 2 am! Jay was a terrific teacher and has been more than gracious to offer to take phone calls to rehash what we learned and even to sit and help reset my camera and allow me to write things down when he returns from his Colorado vacation! (I am so bad at numbers and formulas involving math...i need something in writing just to remember them!)

This is one of my favorite shots...i love the walkway leading into the scene...THIS will be the next lens i purchase. I borrowed this one from Jay, and it was hands down my favorite lens to use!

HAPPY FOURTH of JULY, my friends...stay safe and God Bless America!!

I came across this slightly larger than usual sparrow which I thought at first was a Song or maybe a Fox Sparrow. The upright crest has thrown me though is this a subspecies or something else.

The Stanage millstones slightly earlier and from further away.

Slightly misjudged this shot with the leading loco. Anyway here we see an SBB intermodal freight being worked by 11343 and 11662 on the high level at Gurtnellen on the afternoon of the 24/6/16.

Fyero slightly distracted from her adventures in the grass. I think a neighbour had just popped out of their house to say hello and Fyero turned to see if they possibly had treats for her.

Hope everyone is doing well and staying safe.
