Have a good start to the new week anyway!

#InternationalWomensDay
#March8
Not a ladybird which might have been a slightly more appropriate "supermodel" for International Women's Day because of its name, but an equally pretty Cryptocephalus bipunctatus. The whole supermodel thing is a relic of the past anyway, but unfortunately, we still haven't freed ourselves from questionable beauty "ideals" that often come across as beauty dictates. Social media and "influencers" don't make it any easier, especially not for the younger generation that is exposed (and exposes itself) to what one might call the "daily dose of beauty brainwash", recently taken to the next level with the all-new "beauty filters".
In Berlin (and in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, one of Germany's Northern federal states), March 8 is an official holiday, but not (yet?) in the other 14 of our 16 federal states. So this Wednesday – where all shops, schools, etc. are closed (and the weather is too ghastly to go outside – winter made a snowy-wet, cold reappearance) – feels like a very quiet, lazy Sunday, and I have too much time for writing rants instead of simply letting you enjoy this adorable, brightly orange beetle, a member of the so-called "Fallkäfer" (Cryptocephalinae) subfamily of the leaf beetle family. The name "Fallkäfer" (a beetle that falls or drops) derives from their distinctive habit of dropping abruptly when disturbed. This image also is a true oldie, I've taken it back in June 2017 at the beautiful public park Britzer Garten. The focus is ever so slightly off and more on the plant than on the beetle itself, but I think it's still sharp enough in general.
Wishing all of my female Flickr friends a Happy International Women's Day!
This Red Belly Woodpecker must of pounded its beak and head a little to much with his hair all frazzled!
Happy Friday -- and have a great weekend too!
A slightly different perspective on one of the Elegug stacks. From here it looks like an needle, or the "aim point" at the end of a rifle!
The light was very strange here on this evening and the colours were fabulous. An enchanting place to be, all alone with a camera! In the spring this stack is full of nesting seabirds, particularly Guillemots and Elegug is the Welsh word for that species.
Praying Mantis
Spotted later in the day than the one I posted on Friday and in a different part of the garden. It is slightly more developed. I counted four in the garden yesterday afternoon, all at different stages.
Slightly different POV, the virgin snow and great light simply irresistible.

Still mostly black and orange, former Milwaukee road 171 is almost back to home rails as it passes the CSX tower in Terre Haute. Milwaukee started using trackage rights over Conrail in the late 1970's to reach their Latta Sub. By the late 1980's, the Conrail line was so bad, Soo shifted their Latta sub traffic to the CSX former C&EI line. 1-22-1989.

MYSTIC TIMBERS
If you like shooting photo's you HAVE to visit this place
Slightly bigger than a mallard, these long-necked and small-headed ducks fly with a curved back pointed wings and a tapering tail, making this the best way to distinguish them from other ducks in the UK. The pintail is a 'quarry' species, meaning that it can be legally shot in winter, but - unlike in parts of Europe - it does not appear that shooting is affecting their population status in the UK. The small breeding population and significant winter population make them an Amber List species.

A slightly different but equally wild interpretation of a big sea at the coast. Long shot kick de bucket, is a great reggae track by The Pioneers, and this was a long shot, and if you fell in you'd definitely Kick de bucket in a sea like this. Days like this are really addictive. Virtually all photographers locally flock to Porthcawl Lighthouse, and I had this great stretch of coast to myself. I know which I prefer.
Two empty and abandoned storage units tell us a story of time and change; wooden units now replaced with more modern metal materials. Slightly tilted as the ground beneath them has given way and unevenly weathered from the severe elements that beat on them like morning scrambled eggs. Battered and bruised, their wooden empty carcass' still stand as structures that used to hold the canola that continues to grow around them.
