My New Novel

B♭ (B Flat)

Feel free to read on and explore more. 😃

(Of course, this is not the final draft.)

Important 😅

The female protagonist was originally written as a married woman.

However, as the story unfolded, the constraints of that setting became too restrictive.

Therefore, I have changed her status to single, now living with her partner.

Scene: Los Angeles – The Beaudry – Majid Hamza

1:47 p.m. The heat of downtown Los Angeles drifted between buildings, and the dry air shimmered above the asphalt, warping the ground like a mirage. The midday sun poured vertically into the canyon of skyscrapers.

The façade of The Beaudry reflected the sunlight like a cold mirror, casting flickering shards of light into the eyes of passersby.

The Beaudry, standing in the heart of downtown Los Angeles, is a modern high-rise residential tower. Though its exterior is cold and inorganic, the building boasts luxury amenities. It faces Wilshire Boulevard and 7th Street, just steps from the 7th Street Metro station, offering exceptional convenience in an area where the business district intersects with the city's creative scene—a location in high demand.

960 W 7th Street. For a weekday afternoon, the area was oddly still. Though the office district bustled just a few blocks away, this particular corner seemed wrapped in a strange stagnation of air. Only two or three office workers passed by, presumably out for lunch.

A line of black Ubers honked briefly, then vanished down the road.

The glass-paneled entrance hall was as silent as a gallery. Behind the reception desk, a sculptural white lighting fixture floated like a piece of minimalist art.

Only residents or prospective tenants accompanied by real estate agents came and went. Visitors were rare. No one made eye contact. Everyone stared into the glow of their phones.

Majid, seated on a bench beside the bus stop with a few others, gently touched the mute-reader inside his bag. Subconsciously checking his surroundings, he connected the outdated smartphone—disconnected from the internet—to a tablet that operated only over Wi-Fi.

A few days earlier, he had received a single line from Rafi:

“July 24, 3 p.m. Look for the ‘♭’ mark at the bottom of mellow-echo.net.”

Majid quietly opened his browser. mellow-echo.net—the abandoned official site of a defunct indie music label. Its HTML pages hadn’t been updated in over a decade, but they still floated in some forgotten corner of the internet.

He scrolled to the very bottom. Against a gray background, an image of a musical note, slightly fuzzed with digital noise, lay embedded on the page.

At first glance, it looked like a mere piece of decoration. But when Majid held the mute-reader’s lens to the screen, a deep-layer QR code rose to the surface.

The scan took 0.7 seconds. A short encrypted sentence appeared:

"LA, 7/26, 21:00. Underground. Contact P. K1 → 38.91n / 118.40w"

Seconds later, the message vanished. The device powered down. Its memory wiped to zero. The QR code deleted itself from the server.

Majid’s screen now displayed the interface for a C4 detonation signal.

On the black display, a quiet message blinked once:

“C4-ID: Vanta+Core / Ready.”

He carefully lifted a thin directional antenna from the bag, aligning it along the seam of his trousers, resting it on his lap.

The C4 embedded deep within the pillar of The Beaudry awaited his signal.

This high-rise tower was built with hypersteel structural columns. According to the laws of engineering, if a single critical point was destroyed, the entire building would collapse upon itself like a tower of sand. Five years ago, under instructions from Rafi Gannam—then a student of architecture at the Islamic University—Majid had worked at the construction site and planted the charge. Los Angeles had been his responsibility. The East Coast buildings were under Rafi and Amir’s domain.

Majid took a single deep breath, then slid his finger across the screen.

0.7 seconds later, without a sound, the center of the tower gave a faint shudder. No one noticed. But in the next instant—

A snap. Or something like it.

The Beaudry began to fold in on itself, like a spine silently snapping. From the columns to the floors, from the ceilings to the walls—a silent avalanche of collapsing structures, all engulfed in pale dust. What had been standing just seconds before was now vanishing into the canyon of the city in a swirl of white fog.

A wind blew through the street. The building's mass, once so tangible, dissolved as if it had never existed. Only a soundless death cry remained, shivering the air with a cold, invisible tension.

The collapsed building lay frozen, silenced, severed from the city’s murmurs.

Majid adjusted the silver rim of his glasses and stood. Ignoring the rising chaos around him, he walked slowly toward the subway.

Even the sound of his footsteps was not erased by the thunder behind him.

 “C4-ID:Vanta+Core/Ready.”

Scene: Madison Square Garden – Jack, Ben, Crime Scene Investigation

On the stage inside the Garden, temporary lighting rigs hung above, and white-and-blue barricade tape had been strung across in four overlapping lines.

The audience seating had been completely cordoned off by the police, and the only sound was the distant thrum of a news helicopter circling overhead.

A team from the NYPD’s Major Case Squad surrounded the stage, working in steady silence.

At the center stood a man from the forensic unit, wearing a jacket with “FORENSIC UNIT” printed boldly across the back.

“Two shell casings confirmed. Behind the lighting on the far right of the stage...”

One gloved forensic technician carefully placed yellow numbered markers beside each casing. Another, from the photo unit, captured them from multiple angles.

“Two bullet impacts, beneath the main monitor. They pierced through the back panel. Slugs have already been retrieved.”

Another investigator was measuring angles with a tape and reconstructing the line of fire using a laser. The trajectory of the bullets would help trace back to the firing point.

Faint traces of blood remained on the stage floor—drying, crusting.

A forensic officer, wordless, dabbed a cotton swab into the stain and sealed it in a specimen pouch.

“The CCTV backup has already been handed over by Garden security. The footage is being transferred onto the central laptop.”

The officers moved with a quiet efficiency.

Everyone kept their words to a minimum, focused solely on the scene before them.

It was a dead space—a place where the echoes of screams still lingered in the walls.

Here, cold precision and raw confusion stood shoulder to shoulder, caught in the wake of violence.

Ben had mostly completed his initial forensic scan.

The two shots aimed at Justin had been fired from the overhead center-hung screen, triggered remotely via an online connection.

The voice of Jack, which had echoed through the Garden’s PA system, had been edited using AI.

The audio file had been remotely accessed, overwritten onto the announcement server via the venue’s sound control system, and then played back. That too had been done over the internet.

Jack, shielding his eyes from the ceiling lights, turned to Ben.

“Still, why the hell did he use his real name? Professor Zakaria Haddad, Department of Engineering, Islamic University.”

Ben replied, half in jest.

“Maybe we should ask ChatGPT. You know, just enough to stay within its leak-safe parameters.”

Jack gave him a silent go-ahead, pointing at the MacBook Air Ben had placed on the stage floor.

Ben opened the site and typed in his question:

“The news is saying that Justin, the Republican presidential candidate, was shot. But why would the shooter use his real name?”

The AI didn’t take long to reply.

“Because it was revenge. Most likely, the act was tied to a previous incident in which many lives were lost. He killed himself to declare his unwavering intent.”

Ben typed again.

“In the leaked video, he clearly places the muzzle to his temple and dies. The screen cuts to black right after. Why are you certain he's dead?”

He pasted in the video’s link.

This time, the pause was slightly longer—around five seconds.

“Judging from the blood drops on the desk under two HMI lights, yes. The blood is real. Given the context, death was likely instantaneous.”

Ben frowned, a trace of doubt crossing his mind. He typed again.

“HMI lights? Isn’t that just sunlight coming through the window?”

“It’s not natural light. It’s manufactured—electrical. Likely HMI lights used in studio setups, mimicking daylight color temperature, around 5600K. They are designed to replicate sunlight streaming through a window.”

Jack turned to Ben again.

“Marcus said Zakaria was in Brooklyn. Pull up the map.”

Then he added, almost as an afterthought:

“Justin and Owen both survived. And despite all this elaborate setup, neither was hit in the chest. Ben, ask it—was that intentional?”

Ben echoed Jack’s words into the keyboard. The response came immediately.

“Considering the trajectory from the ceiling and the configuration of the firing devices, the shooter deliberately missed.”

“Why?”

“Because if the target had died instantly, he would not have instilled fear. This was revenge.”

Well worth the trip to West Yorkshire, the unmolested & totally original 1963 Bedford CA van was a highlight in itself but lots of variety as can be seen here.

Very popular French delivery van. In France and in the Netherlands there are still a lot of them on the roads.

Note the nice hub-caps, probably from the older D4 Fourgonnette.

1934 kg.

Production J7-Series: 1965-1980.

Original old Dutch reg. number: June 1, 1972.

Publicity photo of a brand new HY panel van.

This late version HY was not built in Amsterdam and not ment for the Dutch market: it is equipped with so called suicide doors. They were not allowed anymore after 1968.

The very basic HY van was designed by André Lefèbvre (France, 1894-1964), Flaminio Bertoni (Italy, 1903-1964) and Pierre Franchiset, and introduced at the October 1947 Paris Car Salon. Throughout its entire life the design stayed almost the same. Still we can recognize some changes.

Some characteristics of the early Phase I model: split windscreen (replaced in early 1964), big sized chevrons on the bonnet (changed to shorter ones in late 1964), narrow vertical rear window with curved corners (changed to a wider square one in Febr. 1963), and semi-circular rear wings (replaced by rectangular ones in Nov. 1969).

Later models were called HY.

French HY vans kept suicide doors till the very end of production. For the Dutch market conventional front hinged doors were introduced in 1968.

Lots of vans have survived as camper or as food truck.

having come very close recently to selling the Leica to fund a new purchase, I felt myself having one of those 'sliding doors moments'......where my photographic future might split into a different direction, this camera which I had coveted for so long and feel very privileged just to hold, came so close to being consigned to just a lovely memory.......as I said recently, I need to really appreciate it's pixels......stand clear, these doors are closing.

This remarkable design was made by Gerard Welter in cooperation with Studio Pininfarina. The prototype was presented in 2002. Sales started in April 2005.

The car was relatively expensive. Low sale figures made the 1007 project finally commercially unsuccessful.

The sliding doors are very unusual for a small passenger car like this.

Armoured cars outside the Elswick Works, Newcastle upon Tyne, c1931 (TWAM ref 1027/9).

‘Workshop of the World’ is a phrase often used to describe Britain’s manufacturing dominance during the Nineteenth Century. It’s also a very apt description for the Elswick Works and Scotswood Works of Vickers Armstrong and its predecessor companies. These great factories, situated in Newcastle along the banks of the River Tyne, employed hundreds of thousands of men and women and built a huge variety of products for customers around the globe.

The Elswick Works was established by William George Armstrong (later Lord Armstrong) in 1847 to manufacture hydraulic cranes. From these relatively humble beginnings the company diversified into many fields including shipbuilding, armaments and locomotives. By 1953 the Elswick Works covered 70 acres and extended over a mile along the River Tyne. This set of images, mostly taken from our Vickers Armstrong collection, includes fascinating views of the factories at Elswick and Scotswood, the products they produced and the people that worked there. By preserving these archives we can ensure that their legacy lives on.

this portable desktop/tabletop stows on the inside of the sliding door. i use it mostly on the arms of my beach chair.

Stepping into the Sea Ranch Lodge lobby feels like entering a space shaped entirely by intention—warm cedar, quiet light, and a sense of calm that settles over you the moment you cross the threshold. The architecture leans into simplicity without ever feeling sparse. Every surface is touched by natural texture: vertical planks rising toward the ceiling, the grain shifting in tone as it catches the soft interior glow, and the wide-plank floor guiding you forward with an almost meditative rhythm.

The sliding barn-style door draws the eye immediately, both for its clean geometric pattern and for the way it contrasts against the surrounding amber wood. Beyond it, the reception area offers a subtle splash of color, a reminder that even the most minimalist environments can hold small surprises. Nothing feels rushed here. The light fixtures create small islands of illumination, hinting at the contours of the space rather than overwhelming them.

It’s the kind of lobby that invites you to slow down. To pause. To appreciate how architecture can shape mood and movement with only a few materials placed in thoughtful conversation. In a world of noise and clutter, this space gives you permission to breathe.

2017 - OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Welcome to the tranquil beauty of a traditional Japanese garden. This image captures a serene corner featuring large, flat stones with a greenish hue, possibly from moss or algae growth. One stone has a black rope tied around it, likely serving as a decorative or symbolic element. These stones are carefully arranged, reflecting the meticulous attention to detail in Japanese garden design.

In the background, two ceramic pots sit on a stone platform, adding an element of traditional Japanese aesthetics. The bamboo fence on the left and the wooden structure with sliding doors and bamboo blinds on the right are typical features of traditional Japanese architecture. The wooden structure, with its simple yet elegant design, blends harmoniously with the natural surroundings, emphasizing the principles of simplicity and natural beauty.

The greenery surrounding the stones and pots enhances the peaceful atmosphere of the garden. The lush plants and carefully placed stones create a sense of balance and harmony, inviting visitors to pause and reflect. This scene embodies the essence of Japanese gardens, where every element is thoughtfully placed to create a tranquil and meditative environment.

Whether you're a lover of traditional Japanese culture or simply seeking a moment of peace, this garden corner offers a glimpse into the timeless beauty of Japan's landscape design. The combination of natural and architectural elements provides a serene setting for relaxation and contemplation.

storage space on the front and rear deck. A slidingdoor to enter the detailed wheelhouse which also has a detachable roof for easy access.

There is a achor winch located at the bow and yellow engine underneath the funnel. Yellow so it must be a Caterpilar engine.

To be able to use this model in my harbour lay-out I made the underwatership in two pieces. you can easily lift off the the top part and put it in any lay-out.
