Macro Mondays ~ Slices of Food
I started out with crackers, cheese, then strawberries, nothing was working well. The radishes were my last resort and there was something about the textures, color and earthiness that drew me in.
Happy MM to All :)
Ever since I came across this style of Portuguese pottery I have wanted to photograph some pieces little realising how great a challenge the reflections would be! by using my largest softbox a diffusion screen and placing the saucer about 2.5 meters away from the light I was able to get most of the way there, of course one of the basil leaves masks the main highlight!

My two choices are:
In Ice - Feb 15
Orange - May 31
But could also be Slices and Sidelit.
...and finally I’ve managed to get 30 mins of sole access to my kitchen for photography time away from the marauding gannets of the rest of the household!
This has been specifically framed to fit the 3" requirement rule.
Happy Macro Mondays and a very Happy New Year to you all! ✨

When I took this picture a few days ago, it was midnight. The light was awesome. The blue hour is so long now (one or two hours), a dream for photographers ! :) Midnight sun is coming soon here in Iceland.

The only thing moving faster than Norfolk Southern train 15T on this evening was the sun. The Virginian led the freight train out of Allentown in the late afternoon and had a straight shot to Harrisburg. I did the math and figured there'd still be daylight on the Lurgan Branch so off I went to Lemoyne.
I was always bad at math, so I watched each patch of direct light slip away before the train arrived. The only place the sun touched the rails was this little slice off in the distance; luckily it was enough to paint the face of the cab as the train hustled west.
Recently a friend mailed me an article about time slice photography. I had never heard of it but it sounded like a cool technique. So I gave it a try with the skyline of my home town and spent 2 hours photographing. The processing turned out to be more complicated and cumbersome than I had anticipated but I'm pleased with the end result. I am sure I will be trying out this technique again in some future shots.

slices of cooked pork next to a jug of stock
a joint of pork drizzled in extra virgin olice oil was slow cooked on low for a few hours in the slow cooker.
once cooked it was removed, sliced, boxed and placed in the freezer for meals as and when.
the stock is a blend of the pork juices and extra virgin olive oil, boxed for the freezer to use as and when
i removed most of the fat on the outside of the joint before cooking to use today in making liverwurst/pate, first attempt. this fat would have been the pork crackling
i checked the pork in the slowcooker was cooked using a meat thermometer poked in the centre of the joint www.amazon.co.uk/KitchenCraft-Stainless-Steel-Meat-Thermo...
ps i'm not recommending any of these cookery adventures. they suit my personal taste. photographing to encourage myself to eat more healthily
www.flickr.com/groups/cooking_is_my_hobby/ helps to gather ideas and encourages me to continue with healthy eating by learning from others if you're interested in cooking, sometimes or a lot, or enjoy the cooking of others, you're always welcome ...
