Mike slept for an hour at the lake, I couldn't sleep. I laid in an excited reverie and watched the headlights of the buses wash over us. Then Mike woke up and we went looking for a bus stop to ride the buses for awhile. We had to spend the night on the streets because our friend Tim denied shelter.

we slept in our van close to the beach of the Purakaunui Bay, south of new zealand. I woke up because of the very red light of the morning sun - it was a stunning, breathtaking mood which i always like to remember...
I slept in my car about 100M from this location waiting for the sunrise. I was so excited I had found this shot I could barely sleep.
Up early in the morning I set up my shot and waited. After the first shot I took my camera died. I was without a camera.
For two weeks I had planned to travel to some epic locations in Turkey and it was all ruined, I was absolutely gutted!
I slept in yesterday, and Ty unboxed the tree we'd just bought. We never had a tree at our old house. I had surgery days before Christmas the first year of our marriage, and last year we were out of town. I don't know that we're put-the-tree-up-super-early people every year, but this year it feels pretty magical- our first tree in the house we bought this year, our first.
And I'm obsessed with our etsy-found Santa gnome topper.
Having slept out in the open where this shot was taken from, it had been a cold night. When those first rays hit the mountain tops it's a wonderful feeling because it's a promise of body warmth soon to come.
The soul is already warm in places like this...
Mt Aspiring National Park, New Zealand...
We slept up there to see the sunrise in the morning. As the moon came up, we got a dreamlike view to the Triglav Nationalpark.

2 years ago i took this very shot @ 70mm titled it "Mid-Night Blue". today i came across this path and the sunset had to be captured. so, with a 50mm lens i took to task.....this image took 3 minutes to capture, shot with a 10 stop ND filter....my goal was to let the sky fire orange cover the entire frame.
thank you for viewing......critique welcome
The initiator of this meet told me he hadn't slept for several nights to get all these engines at Amersfoort... Well, the result was great. Four engines of the former NS 1600 class came to Amersfoort to celebrate their 40th anniversary. Present were RRF 4401 & 4402 (RRF is a G&W subsidiary), RFO 1829 and TCS 1635. In the background are some other former 1600 class engines, that now run for open access freight operators.
Having slept on it, I think I prefer the colour version to the previously uploaded b/w one.

The Canadian Camp.
"Canadians camped out here in the woods at Chartwell during the Second World War. When there was an air raid they would cover up the lakes, so the German pilots would not recognise Chartwell from the air. Hold your own camp here, relax in the hammocks, 'cook' up a storm and plot your adventure."
National Trust.
I hardly think the ponds were covered for every air raid, ..... rather, they covered the ponds and left them covered !
I just had to try this to see what it's like being a Canadian. As you can see, ... not terribly smiley. It must have been grim living in the woods with one water supply and a "Dunney". Remains of both can still be seen.

As New York City’s first historic house museum, Van Cortlandt House contains an outstanding collection of furniture and decorative arts, including many heirlooms donated back to the house by members of the Van Cortlandt family. In 1694, Jacobus Van Cortlandt, a merchant and Mayor of New York (1710-11, 1719-20), purchased the parcel of land that today contains Van Cortlandt Park and the Van Cortlandt House Museum. His son Frederick built the current house, the oldest in the Bronx, in 1748-49. George Washington stayed at the Van Cortlandt House at least twice during the Revolutionary War. Van Cortlandt descendants lived in the House until 1886, when they sold the entire estate to the City of New York for Van Cortlandt Park. In 1896, The National Society of Colonial Dames in the State of New York restored the House as a museum and operates it to this day.

thought: i really hate work lately. haha i almost walked out today, if it wasnt for the old people i would have been gone a long time ago. They almost made me stay all day, which would have made for a nice paycheck, but no thanks! haha. Working just sucks in general, but in like two weeks, I get my yearly raise =P. So i guess thats good. Jon made work not sucky but hes not back yet, therefore it still sucks.

Okay, happy people, it's Spring. I cannot contain my excitement when I see blossom on the trees. I slept with my curtains open last night, I basked in the moonlight and woke to rays of blissful sun. That's contentment. That's reason to keep living and keep breathing and keep giving and keep taking. Today I'm leaving hibernation and tackling my wintry demons, it's time for a mental spring clean. Maybe I'll re read this and dismiss it as sun-fueled-serotonin intoxication but right here, right now, I'm okay. I'm not just existing.

We slept here on a road trip. The room was in an admin building on the Terres Rouges site, and there were old needles by the door. We barricaded ourselves in with an unhinged door that we propped up and secured with heavy furniture. I'm not entirely sure why it seemed like a good idea, but it's a memory that differs from my other ones.
Rockingham- Built in the 1700's, the house has been moved a few times from its original location. Washington did sleep in the house, but the house wasn't here when he slept in it. It was however, somewhat near here.

UPDATE:
On August 25, 2019, I made a trip to the Patsy Cline Historic House Museum in Winchester, Virginia, located near the Triangle Diner. When I first posted this photo of the place back in 2016, I had found information on the internet that indicated Patsy Cline had waited on tables at this diner. Unfortunately, I never made note of the source. Anyway, I spoke with one of the docents at the house museum about the possibility of Patsy Cline having worked at the Triangle. The docent didn't know the answer but was able to get in contact with Patsy's brother-in-law who says to his knowledge Patsy never worked at the Triangle. Although according to him, Patsy did work at several restaurants in the Winchester area before making it big time. This info doesn't necessarily mean she didn't work here, but rather that he does not recall her working here, so further research is necessary before making a definite statement regarding her employment at the Triangle. I guess the lessons to be learned here, if there are any, is that I should question and make better notes of online sources of information.
This morning, I slept right through my alarm clocks, finally waking up a couple of hours later. So, I'm just posting this one photo, as I am running so late. I have a doctor's appointment to get to, about the dizziness I have had for more than a week now. Yesterday wasn't too bad and I managed to get out on a Christmas Bird Count for the town of High River, south of Calgary. I didn't have to drive and there wasn't much walking. After the Count, we stayed for a delicious potluck supper, which was so welcome! I know I would have been so disappointed if I'd had to miss this Count. I've already had to cancel two of them.
On 29 November 2016, I was fortunate enough to have a third trip into the mountains to look for and photograph these wonderful White-tailed Ptarmigan. Friend, Shirley, had been out there before, but just missed seeing them. She asked if I wanted to go with her, and I jumped at the chance. I knew several other people who were planning to go, so felt a little more confident that we would probably be able to find these birds.
Find them, we did - but, oh, what we had to go through in order to see them! Unlike the other two times I had been, on 22nd and 23rd November, this time the birds were not near the main road area but, instead, were first spotted way across the valley, low down on the mountainside. A few years ago, I had done a short walk along this valley in deep, deep snow and vowed I would never be so foolish to do it again. You need snowshoes and, even then, the going is difficult. Of course, I don't have snowshoes, nor did a few of my friends.
When I heard that some people ahead of us had seen a few of the birds closer than the mountainside, I decided I would at least start 'walking' and see how far I got. The first short distance through the snow was flat, but then we had to climb upwards through knee deep snow. I almost had to give up, but thanks to friend, Tony, who basically dragged me up some of the most difficult parts, I was able to plough my way to where the closest Ptarmigan were. A few other helping hands, too, made this climb possible.
Several of the birds were in the sunshine for a while, either resting or taking a few short steps. So different compared to seeing and photographing them on a cloudy, gloomy day.
These birds tend to walk around in just a small area for a while, feeding on the Willow buds, and then the group lies down, some of them burrowing till just the head and neck are visible, or some will burrow till they disappear completely under the snow. Every now and then, you can hear the little sounds they make. After resting, they repeat the feeding process and then rest again. As you can imagine, from a distance, a turn of the head so that a bird is looking away from you, all that remains is something that looks like one of the many lumps of snow everywhere.
"The smallest grouse in North America, the White-tailed Ptarmigan inhabits alpine regions from Alaska to New Mexico. It has numerous adaptations to its severe habitat, including feathered toes, highly cryptic plumage, and an energy-conserving daily regime." From AllAboutBirds.
www.allaboutbirds.org/guide/White-tailed_Ptarmigan/id
"The white-tailed ptarmigan (Lagopus leucura), also known as the snow quail, is the smallest bird in the grouse family. It is a permanent resident of high altitudes on or above the tree line and is native to Alaska and the mountainous parts of Canada and the western United States. It has also been introduced into the Sierra Nevada in California, the Wallowa Mountains in Oregon and the Uinta Mountains in Utah. Its plumage is cryptic and varies at different times of the year. In the summer it is speckled in gray, brown and white whereas in winter it is wholly white. At all times of year the wings, belly and tail are white. The white-tailed ptarmigan has a diet of buds, leaves, flowers and seeds. The nest is a simple depression in the ground in which up to eight eggs are laid. After hatching, the chicks soon leave the nest. At first they eat insects but later move on to an adult diet, their mother using vocalisations to help them find suitable plant food. The population seems to be stable and the IUCN lists this species as being of "Least Concern". From Wikipedia.
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/White-tailed_ptarmigan
Eventually, it was time to head back down and along to the cars, repeating the difficult process of 'step and plunge' through the snow. It felt so good to finally reach the car!
Shirley and I had left the city and travelled south via Turner Valley, but came back to the city via Barrier Lake and Highway 1. While driving out to Highway 40 in the morning, we had stopped to watch a beautiful female Moose along the road from Turner Valley and then later, we stopped to watch a couple of Bighorn Sheep on Highway 40. Other than that, there was no sign of other wildlife.
From 1 December onward, the north and south winter gates are closed across Highway 40, so these birds will be left in peace for the rest of the winter, until 14 June 2017. All the wildlife in the area will be free of human presence while they have their young ones in the spring.
Thanks so much for a great day, Shirley! I'm so glad you were finally able to see a few of these beautiful Ptarmigan in their winter white. It was very unfortunate that one person was not able to do the difficult walk and so will have to wait till next fall to hopefully get a 'lifer'. Most people I know have/had never seen this species, especially when white, so I'm feeling extremely lucky! Of course, even if one doesn't find the Ptarmigan, the scenery alone is just breathtaking.

This is Merzouga Dessert. After travelling from Rabat (passing trhough Fez, Meknes, Volubilis, Rissani, E Racchidia and many other wonderful places and cities) we arrived to to Merzouga. There is no way to get to the dessert by car so we took some camels and arrived to the dessert by sunset. There are no words to describe the stars in the dessert. We slept in a tend near the camels at the bottom of the big dune.
This was taken a few weeks ago, never seen this fella in my garden before. He slept for ages on our shed roof, actually thought he was dead he was there for so long.
