This bee slept overnight on this Iris petal. In the morning I came to see this bee still and covered in mist. Looking very still and lifeless, I moved down and blew warm air from deep in my lungs until it moved. The bee moved around slowly and climbed under the petal. I left it be, knowing it wasn’t dead. I came back shortly after and it was gone without a trace.
WATNEY SLEPT peacefully in his bunk. He shifted slightly as some pleasent dream put a smile on his face. He'd done three EVAs the previous day, all filled with labor-intensive hab maintenance. So he slept deeper and better than he had in long time.
"Good morning crew! Lewis called out.
"It's a brand-new day!

The Fox River at Rt 52 just east of Serena Illinois. History buffs of the Civil War tel me that Abe Lincoln camped with his regiment on the bank there to the lower right. I crossed this river daily to get to work when I lived in Serena for a few years. I have also canoed this stretch a couple times with friends. Just south of here are some spectacular sandstone bluffs scenery normally unassociated with the cornfields of Illinois.
I slept in this morning, but decided around 7:30am that I wasn't just going to lay around all day. I needed to get out and do some photography. In the cold...and (heavy) rain. Knowing that ducks are often more active in the rain, I made my way down to Huntley Meadows, which was pretty dead...both in terms of humans and animals. I did find a couple ducks here and there, and some lovely small sparrows hopping around in the GORGEOUS wet swamp rose, but my favorite of the morning was this shot of a Great Blue Heron...just doing its Heron thing (looking for food). As I just mentioned, the foliage around the park is still very pretty, especially the low stuff growing in/around the water. I was able to line the Heron up with some of this behind it to create a very pretty color contrast.
By the time I left, around 11, I was thoroughly cold. Despite laying in the water on the boardwalk, I was thankfully mostly dry due to waterproof bibs and a mostly waterproof jacket. Lacking waterproof gloves, I went without them entirely, which wasn't too bad until the rain really picked up and a slight breeze started.

Yesterday, while mom slept in the tree, the four youngsters came down out of the big maple for a frolic within yards and sometimes feet of me. This family has been rummaging the pond nightly for months now, and I've mostly settled down to the routine of trying to sleep through their mayhem, then pick up the pieces the next day. I'll admit that I do find their boldness a little bit charming. When I confront them at night they mostly just stare back at me with curious and unfrightened expressions. Now apparently they're taking over the place in the daytime, too. The one good thing is that they appear to be strangely inept hunters. I've seen my goldfish swimming right through their grasping hands, but despite this we've suffered no casualties. Raccoon juveniles, backyard Olympia.

The Confederates inside Fort Donelson's earthworks stayed in attractive little cabins like this. During the battle in mid-February 1862, soldiers on both sides slept in the earthworks without fires, and sometimes without adequate clothing.

These are all the rooms I slept in over 2022. My travel is far from what it was pre-pandemic, but I am still out around the world. I was only traveling for 77 days in 12 countries and flew 97,991 kilometers (60,889 miles).

Since my eldest son died just over two years ago, I have mostly slept poorly and lacked concentration.
Recently however, I have been trying to learn to use Photopills - on the basis that I may as well try to use the time I am awake in the dark, instead of lying there staring out of the window and knowing I will feel like sh*t when I have to get up in the morning.
I have not found Photopills easy to use - but feel as though I am finally beginning to get the hang of it.
Here are two photos from the last few days, one from early this morning and one from a few nights ago, when the sky was clear.
I wish I had been a bit more ambitious with the Milky Way in terms of composition and exposure - (I did shoot some foregrounds but they weren't good so I haven't used) - but for a first go I’m reasonably pleased. Several 15 second exposures stacked in Affinity. I wish I had shot a lot more.
The second shot was not the one I went out for - but I was able to plan it in situ when my idea for star trails got thwarted by fast rising clouds. I was using live composite on the OM1 and there is a tiny bit of light painting in the foreground. Soon after this, all traces of sunrise disappeared behind a thick grey cloudbank.
Slept over Jen's house again.
Yet another last minute photo.
Not sure what I think of it.
Went to a graduation party today. My godfather was there; he's up from Florida.
At the party, he told me he's going to send me a gift: My godmother's old Nikon camera. I don't know anything about it other than that it takes film. Haha, can't wait! :D
I know I'll treasure this camera because of the sentimental value, if anything. <3
Having slept in a bit too much I missed part of the fun this morning, but managed to make it to Curriers for my first shot of the day's freight headed up to Reisdorf's in North Java on the Arcade and Attica. Thanks to the guys for the updates on the run north that I was behind on, and again to SC for the initial digging that led to everyone coming away with this great score.
Slept in so made a dash for Lynemouth Beach, running out of time before Sun broke the Horizon so just grabbed a quick shot.

Overcast and drizzly day on top of Cadillac mountain in Acadia National Park. Its the highest point (1,530 feet) along the North Atlantic seaboard and the first place to view sunrise in the U.S. from October 7th to March 6th and is one of over 20 mountains on Mount Desert Island.

Mike slept for an hour at the lake, I couldn't sleep. I laid in an excited reverie and watched the headlights of the buses wash over us. Then Mike woke up and we went looking for a bus stop to ride the buses for awhile. We had to spend the night on the streets because our friend Tim denied shelter.

we slept in our van close to the beach of the Purakaunui Bay, south of new zealand. I woke up because of the very red light of the morning sun - it was a stunning, breathtaking mood which i always like to remember...
I slept in my car about 100M from this location waiting for the sunrise. I was so excited I had found this shot I could barely sleep.
Up early in the morning I set up my shot and waited. After the first shot I took my camera died. I was without a camera.
For two weeks I had planned to travel to some epic locations in Turkey and it was all ruined, I was absolutely gutted!
I slept in too late to get Mr Dunedin Rail Action's memo regarding a colourful 4 on 920, and after dithering about a bit, ended up back in Oamaru and then at Glenavy to snag it.

I slept in yesterday, and Ty unboxed the tree we'd just bought. We never had a tree at our old house. I had surgery days before Christmas the first year of our marriage, and last year we were out of town. I don't know that we're put-the-tree-up-super-early people every year, but this year it feels pretty magical- our first tree in the house we bought this year, our first.
And I'm obsessed with our etsy-found Santa gnome topper.
We slept up there to see the sunrise in the morning. As the moon came up, we got a dreamlike view to the Triglav Nationalpark.

2 years ago i took this very shot @ 70mm titled it "Mid-Night Blue". today i came across this path and the sunset had to be captured. so, with a 50mm lens i took to task.....this image took 3 minutes to capture, shot with a 10 stop ND filter....my goal was to let the sky fire orange cover the entire frame.
thank you for viewing......critique welcome
