I set out early from West Yellowstone along the Madison River. Spotted a small herd of elk by the 7 mile bridge far off along the woods. 1 mile later I encountered this elk grazing alone along the river. She must have slept in and missed the herd's departure. I was leaning against a large boulder and she was just noticing me. A great way to start the day!

I slept so solidly last night, the snow was melting before I even got up. But there were some gorgeous views to be found in the bright sunlight, although Castle Tioram remained in the shadow caused by the surrounding hills, and the tide had already cut off access to the view in front of the castle. But it was fairytale peaceful and quiet save for the distant call of a gull echoing across the water.

It always annoys me how when I have to go to work my body wants to sleep in for ages, but when I have a weekend I am wide awake at the crack of dawn, what is up with that? It happens to me all the time, I could have slept for hours this morning.... but over the weekend when I had the time to sleep freely my mind would not shut down and I was wide awake most of the night. Does this happen to you ? I must be getting old ( hush now all of you lol I know I am) but I used to sleep anytime and for so long it was disgusting lol now well, now I like sunrise shots cause I may as well get something from these early mornings lol So my goal this week is to go softly softly and have a good work, me, sleep and play ratio and not get into the work work work ratio.

Slept in this morning so I didn't make it into the high country until around 10:15. Found three pygmies in the usual spot but only one was cooperative and let me get this close up image. Had to get a foot from the edge of the cliff and sit down to get at the same level as the bird.
