I did this sketch from my imagination although I often draw from photos. I have always loved drawing and I think looking at animal photography books when doing drawings, was partly what got me into taking photos myself. My mum went to art college when she was younger, so she's always encouraged me to draw. Can't draw people to save my life, just like animals really :) Anyway, I quite liked this one, so thought I'd put it up... and a couple of other, very quick sketches!

Sur le chemin de Saragosse...

Did this sketch after a long time (after 8month).

Referred Suresh Babu's picture with his permission. Thanks Suresh!

Used blunt charcoal pencil. Attempted for the mood; not for the perfection ;-)

Took me around an hour! Some how the original look better than this scanned copy.

Nostalgie...

From the first floor of the "Brioche Dorée". View through the windows. On the right a view on my garden shed.

From the first floor of the "Brioche Dorée". View through the windows with a big bubble for the coffee sign.

Du 1er étage de la Brioche Dorée, vue sur la place Jean Jaures. Sur la droite, vue sur mon cabanon de jardin surélevé dans mon mini jardin de ville.

Evening Sketch: corner of Proudhon street. The colored version will follow, perhaps. The evening was softer, and the sun was out for a change :)

croquis du soir : angle de la rue Proudhon. la version colorée suivra je pense. La soirée était plus douce, et du soleil pour changer :)

First sketch of mariah/away from JKPP. Blue pen.

Sketched when I was watching TV.

Korean TV series called Dramas are everywhere, you may also watch a lot of action movies.

Sketch a old BeiJing Hutong when passing by. Like dream of my childhood summer.

Straight Pen, one shot sketch from 6-20-07. Just a quickie with a Bic pen. Done in series of days and weeks that I was pushing myself to draw a new sketch a day. Trying to push myself beyond that stagnant point of repeating the same shit over and over again. Everyday I would start the piece in a different position or with a different letter, in hopes of creating something new and opening different chambers in my brain. Whereas, I might have gotten my style a little more loose in some areas, I found I just couldn't get to the point I was hoping to. It just wasn't the same without the painting to go with it. I also wasn't on the internet and had really no outside influences, so it was like trying to reinvent the wheel everyday. I had heard from some of the younger crew members about 12 oz. and remember seeing it like 10 years ago. To see where it had developed and taken the artform, was incredible. Still, I didn't want to sign up and have to sign in to use it, so I stayed away from it. It wasn't until the crew opened up their Flickr account that I saw the possibilty for sharing and communicating with an audience of like-minded people. Unfortunately, the politics behind an account with 20 plus members became taxing. Everyone had a different idea as to how it would and should have been run. It ended up getting too complicated. I wasn't looking for complications with something that seemed so compelling to do. Plus, it was so easy, even a caveman like myself, could use it. Also, the positive nature of the writers on Flickr, really made me feel like it was a little more relevant to what I was trying to accomplish. Which is, open a creative dialogue amongst writers and share some stories about who I am as a person, my experiences with the artform and the why's and how's behind what I do. So thanks to anyone and everyone that has visited and commented on my flickr account and the photos. You guys have been a real inspiration for me and continue to push me to want to do more and better things. Plus, reimbrace what I had lost with the artform for so many years. Much Respect!

How To Sketch:

Drawn for Urban Sketchers weekly theme "sketches with words"

As usual, I'm late to the trend, but better late than never. I'm trying to start drawing/sketching again, specifically in this nice little Moleskine sketchpad. Not surprisingly, I didn't magically become better at drawing while I wasn't practicing. I'm still the same old hack (it's kind of like my guitar playing).

These are all what I would call pseudo-, or near-blind-contour drawings in that I start with a contour drawing, then go back and add details. A blind contour drawing is done without looking at the paper. In the sketches on the left, the shoe and remote "outlines" were done without looking. Then I'd look down and relocate my pen, and draw a couple more contours, such as the sole of the shoe. Then, I'd go back in and fill in the details.

In the right-hand drawing, I drew nearly the entire contents of the top of the entertainment center with one continuous line. Then I sketched in the remainder, still looking at the paper mostly just to relocate the pen.

Sorry about the quality of the scan - I thought that would be better than taking a photo of the pages. Wrong...

Visiting a friend in Treffort for a week in freezing weather.

Sketches with fingers numb with cold, sometimes drawn with thick gloves ....

Day 2: weeping tree, and the view of one part of the loft of my friend (this part is 17 meters long and 6 meters wide, not yet restored)

I feel like I haven't gotten to post much this month! I'm still around, but right now what's eating up my time is developing a small portfolio book to shop around various clients I'm dying to work with. So for the various subject openers I've decided to develop some images of me and my little pup Levi introducing readers to my work. All various modes of transport! (tricycle, railroad handcart, Levi piloting a plane, etc).

So for the intro, what better than to revamp my popular Hello Llama? Trying to streamline-- I would like to draw this llama all day long!

So, HI guys! :)

Free embroidery pattern of the month!!!
