I've christened my new sewing machine 'The Beast' as it's at least three times the size of the little JL Mini I've been using for the last three years! Unfortunately I've not been getting much time for sewing recently as we are in the process of moving house, but I can't wait to get a sewing room set up in the new place so that I can crack on.
There's something kind of spooky about these characters that I saw in a New Orleans store. Like voodoo dolls, they seem to have a life of their own. It's like they have an awareness, somehow. One can imagine them coming to life in some dreamworld, or when your back's turned.

this favela is the last favela where Jongo still survives. Jongo is a rythm, dance and music also known as the grandfather of Samba and originates from the times of slavery and Africa.
