Inkwenkwizi Game Reserve, Eastern Cape, South Africa.

We were greeted by Xhosa singers on arrival at the Inkwenkwezi Private Game Reserve, located 30 km north-east of East London. The reserve occupies an area of 100 sq. km.

The four major ethnic divisions among Black South Africans are the Nguni, Sotho, Shangaan-Tsonga and Venda. The Nguni represent nearly two thirds of South Africa's Black population and can be divided into four distinct groups: the Northern and Central Nguni (the Zulu-speaking peoples), the Southern Nguni (the Xhosa-speaking peoples), the Swazi people from Swaziland and adjacent areas and the Ndebele people of the Northern Province and Mpumalanga. The Bantu-speaking groups that were the ancestors of the Nguni migrated down from East Africa as early as the 17th century.

The Xhosa are the second largest cultural group in South Africa, after the Zulu-speaking nation. They are a Bantu ethnic group of Southern Africa mainly found in the Eastern and Western Cape.

At a wedding reception in Quito, a Mariachi band played several lively Mexican songs. The woman singer wears the traditional silver studded charro outfit with a wide-brimmed hat.

This picture SUCKS. And I really don't care, just like I didn't care to

take the food out of my teeth before last night's picture.

*edited to add:

I am having my first migraine in four months. I have had one or more

every month for the past ten years, except for the year I was strictly on

Atkins, during which I might have had two or three all year. But for some

reason, I've not had them lately. Anyway, I'm having one now.

I was thinking this morning that I'd been very lucky not to have had a

migraine, and maybe I should thank my lucky stars that I'm having sleep

troubles instead of migraines.

LOL.

Opé Smith

A young and thrilling soul voice and an old school sound: the singer Opé Smith is an authentic revelation on the French music scene

An artist with an exuberant energy and fascinating charm, Opé Smith is Franceâs revelation of the year. A real showman with a charming voice and stage presence, the singer of African origin has attracted broad critical, in particular for his live shows, where he presents a soul repertoire of new songs, a mix between his own compositions and covers of Ray Charles, Aretha Franklin, or The Temptations â adapted with a convincing old school sound. Opé Smith stepped into the limelight at the end of 2013 with his first EP and learned the ropes in gospel choirs and in a soul collective before emerging alongside the popular Ben lâOncle Soul. For the past year heâs been performing as soloist together with around ten musicians from the French electro jazz scene. The singer will be in Ascona for the first time, with two concerts: make sure you donât miss him!

I have an old-fashioned hand-operated Singer sewing machine my grandparents gave me when I was a small child - I have always loved it's 'traditional' look, and was experimenting with the macro function on my camera.
