One of my Simple Pleasures is beachcombing and rock pooling along the seashore.
These are pebbles I've collected over the years. The final little one was the real problem ... I think it is frightened of heights 😊
The entire mini cairn is only 3" high.

Simple pleasures — sunlight through a foggy, misty morning.
I cannot read about the US president and his family and cohorts debasing everything I believe in and hold dear.

We have a lot of snow today and everything looks like it's a long way off the spring. Outdoor is like a fairy tale and I have to take the opportunity to photograph birds in that environment. (I almost froze)
So I'm sending a snowy birthday card with the best wishes.

Playing in Photoshop - a second take on the gerbera I posted yesterday - and the final of 3 versions I made.
Here I shot 3 gerbera daisies against the window in the sunlight. This time I wanted to work from the light to a darker tone, again using textures. I do love the gerbera (Transvaal daisy) it's is such a great flower to photograph.
The first treatment of the 3 gerbera together is linked in the first comment field

And I guess it would also be one of my favourite cliché shots too.
The Transvaal daisies, or gerbera are so lovely, they are big and bright - they are so irresistible! And they hold raindrops so perfectly too. I just love to shoot them.

SIMPLE PLEASURES - JAKE BUGG
Softly spoken
gentle, muted colours
small and often overlooked
this little common herb
is delicate and fragile
is often found
and pressed within a book
delightful is it's presence
a surprise found in the grass
blush pink and heart-shaped petals
bring such joy to hand
it seeds itself
and blows on winds
that carry it away
to grow again
wherever it may land
nature is a wondrous thing
it heals; brings happy thoughts
and dreams that take us far away
in woven webs are caught
look upon this humble flower
savour this kind moment
for it is like a starlit shower
of asteroids; do not lament
it's passing by does not last long
but look again and see
appearances are here and there
dotted prettily
in hedgerows low beneath the shadows
of great trees that stand tall
you'll find these miracles of life
even though they are so small
yet they are many
and that is good
to know life is so plentiful
take a minute of your walk
to spend in it's pleasant company
they do not disappoint or have
unreal expectations
they are themselves
they are complete
they have no hesitation
natural beauty may not last
but inside is what counts
that pure light; that heavenly zeal
these flowers have
in bounteous appeal
look once; look twice
and look again
the language of these flowers
whispers soft like rain
and tells to us
all we need to know
let all unfold
let spirits grow
a sense of well-being
an effortless charm
that lights up our lives
and does no harm
enchanting; magical
all this and more
can be yours and mine
forever more.

I was in awe on this early morning walk on Sunday, everything so quiet and peaceful, almost too good to be true. Made me smile all the way.
I didn't even feel the cold. (The camera battery did!)

✈️ : Welcome to Frogmore sim General Rated Sim
I see the bad moon risin'
I see trouble on the way
I see earthquakes and lightnin'
I see bad times today
Don't go around tonight
Well, it's bound to take your life
There's a bad moon on the rise
I hear hurricanes a-blowin'
I know the end is comin' soon
I fear rivers overflowin'
I hear the voice of rage and ruin
Don't go around tonight
Well, it's bound to take your life
There's a bad moon on the rise
Sometimes change is a good thing. Years ago the woods across from my home was clear cut to build homes. I was really upset about that. But over the years I have apprecaited that I can now see amazing sunsets from my front yard that I couldn't see when the woods was blocking my view.

One of my "Simple Pleasures" is buying flowers that I can't grow myself, or are out of season. This also spills over into a Guilty Pleasure when I spend rather more than I should on them!
This bunch of egg-yolk yellow irises gave me so much pleasure, and so many photo moments too ... I'm not sure I feel too guilty about them ;o)

Simple Pleasures - "found" delights
PA - Texture
I'm lucky! Almost every morning when I go out to feed the birds, I can find some small thing to photograph. It might be a snail shell, a flower, a dead leaf, some moss, a feather. Friday I found a tiny fragment of our lace-cap hydrangea lodged between some of the stones in our rockery. It still shines in the sunlight, even after a rough winter outside!
The flower head is just 2 cm across, establishing shot in the first comment field

A Simple Pleasure that never ceases to delight - a single flower, set in a vase alone, in the sunshine. Lily of the Incas, also called the Peruvian Lily or more technically, Alstroemeria. Such an exotic name for such a beautiful flower!

There are simple pleasures in life. Often, we overlook what is right in front us. Take time for life simplicity.

Sheltering from the storm among the laurel hedges, a sparrowhawk brought its breakfast into our garden.
I had to shoot through a rainy window, using the HX300 at almost full zoom to catch some shots as it ate (possibly a field mouse). We have lots of birds feeding in the garden, especially over winter. But the hawks rarely come into the village, preferring the open land and forested areas for hunting. So it was a rare delight to observe this one. It stayed for over half an hour - we guess the shelter from the wind made the garden a desirable stopping place this day!

Such a grey day here I looked for some colour to brighten things up! One of my Simple pleasures is to take some blue hydrangea flowers from last year, still keeping some colour as they slowly dry. Together with stronger colours behind the window on the garden - and I feel warmer already!

Dried sycamore leaves in the sunshine.
I'm collecting an album of Simple Pleasures to celebrate the ordinary things that I take for granted - and might not think to photograph. They may not be expensive or obvious, but they help to make up the quality of life that I enjoy so much.
I collected these large sycamore leaves a couple of years ago. Now they are paper thin and a delicate golden colour. Set in the sunny window, they glow!

We stepped onto this vast expanse of beach last fall with only one other person already there to enjoy some extrospection. It was such a beautiful spot on a warm day but needed something in the foreground to anchor the composition for a photo. When I explained what I wanted to do, she was happy to oblige and I was grateful for it.
Life Pro Tip: don't ever teach your dog to walk on its hind feet. It is just plain creepy.

For Textural Tuesday, and my Simple pleasures collection
I suppose that I should call them 'cast asides' really not 'castaways' like on a desert island! They are odds and ends that I simply have to shoot before I throw them away or use them. This is a small sprig of fresh basil combined with a tiny white daisy. I was keeping the basil fresh in an eggcup of water before adding it to my cooking ... and the flower was a left-over from a wilted bunch. And I am soooo reluctant to let anything go - I just placed them on glass and took a few shots!
For the background and texture I combined 3 from "2 Lil Owls"

I wanted to capture the spiky nature of the pine needles and the softness of the rose petals. The pine needles have been drying over winter and are now very close in colour to the rose itself. Together in the sunshine in the window the pine fragrance was lovely. I am not sure I captured any of the things I wanted ... but I tried ;o)
