Built about fifty years before the Temple of Neptune and 50 years after that of Hera, it has particularities that distinguish it from the other two temples and make it one of the most interesting in Greek architecture. The high pediment makes this Temple unique; the Doric frieze composed of large limestone blocks is also unique. The internal plan, simpler than that of the other two temples, was composed of the pronaos and the cell in which there are no traces of the treasure chamber (adyton).

The pronaos had eight columns with Ionic capitals, four on the front and two on each side. Of the Ionic columns of the pronaos, only the bases can be seen and two capitals (the oldest in Ionic style found in Italy) are kept in the nearby Archaeological Museum.

The discovery of numerous terracotta statuettes (ex voto) depicting Athena in votive containers proves that the Temple was not dedicated to Ceres but to the goddess of wisdom and the arts Athena. In fact, the temple stands on the highest part of the city, a place where temples in honor of Athena have always been built in Greek cities.

Does everyone remember the simple joys of childhood like playing in the mud and water? I watched this child playing in the mud on the banks of the Mekong River downstream from Luang Prabang, Laos, for many minutes while he remained oblivious of everything but his 'engineering' job. His dynamic pose suggested to me that, while enjoying the mud, he was being careful not to get his clothes dirty.

One of my new pictures, a simple and casual picture of the interior of a train station.

I went for heavier post-processing for this picture, as it was taken in less than ideal conditions.

“This is the true fruit and true purpose of Christian solitude: that what we learn leads us out to others with a stronger love that is pure. We can go out to them without vanity and without complacency, loving others with something of the purity and gentleness and hiddenness of God’s love for us. We do not cease to be men in order to become angels or gods, but the love of my man’s heart becomes God’s love for God and men, and my human tears can fall from my eyes as the tears of God because they well up from the motion of His Spirit in the heart of His incarnate Son. The one true God sent His only begotten Son to men in the likeness of man that they, while still remaining men, might love Him with a divine love.”

- Thomas Merton from Thoughts in Solitude pgs. 129-130

"The real things haven't changed. It is still best to be honest and truthful; to make the most of what we have; to be happy with simple pleasures; and have courage when things go wrong." - Laura Ingalls Wilder

These past few days have felt like summer with warm temperatures, sunny skies and trees turning that wonderful lime green with new leaves. So I have been distracted from Flickr by doing the things I love to do in the summer. My garden is looking so great. I worked on an art project for my garden as well as tidied up the weeds. I have enjoyed watching all the beautiful birds visit my backyard and a few of them build nests. We have meals on our back deck which feels like camping. We hike long urban hikes which includes our local park. Then last night we camped out all night in our backyard.

The Trilliums are out and I said I wouldn't take any more Trillium pictures because I have so many good ones in my files. However, there was the odd one posed so nicely that it caught my attention. This one had such a gentle Purple/red color compared to the others in its group that I honored it with a portrait. It also made me stop to realize that I normally would take this pictures on the Bruce Trail. With that trail being closed right now I was glad to see the blooms in our own park nearby.

I also realized that it was the simple pleasures of outdoor experiences I love so much and it didn't really matter where these things happened. It can be in our own backyard. The things we see every year can be beautiful each time you see them again if you use fresh eyes.

Shadows and silhouettes. Looking through the window of a derelict warehouse in West Yorkshire on a sunny day.

The light showing through the space where the roof once was has created an abstract feel to the dilapidated structure behind the window.

Somewhere along the way

I got caught up in the race

I kept spinning and turning

Lost myself my hope my faith

We're always wanting more than what we have

And what I've learned is all I really need are...

The simple things

That come without a price

The simple things

Like happiness joy and love in my life

I've seen it all from so many sides

And I hope you would agree

The best things in life

Are the simple things

Hey everybody don't get me wrong you got to understand ambition and knowledge

Are the seeds of every woman and man

It's good to work... work hard and prosper

As long as you take time to find...

The simple things

That come without a price

The simple things

Like happiness joy and love in my life

I've seen it all from so many sides

And I hope you would agree

That the best things in life

Are the simple things

Solo

This world moves so fast

Sometimes you got to slow down, down, down

To find out what its all about

We're always wanting more than what we have

What I've learned, is what I really need are

The simple things

That come without a price

The simple things

Like happiness joy and love in my life

I've seen it all from so many sides

And I hope you would agree

The best things in life

Are the simple things
